Now I have to ask' date=' unless you are a pro and put food on the table with your cycling, why ride in atrocious conditions, is one or two days of loafing really going to change anything?, and even if it did, (which I doubt) are you going to be winning any races in the near future?

If its no fun, (and I really cant see how it can be) why the hell do it?

I am sorry, it just makes no sense to me.

Just to expand on your argument a bit then, what if the rain carries on the whole week (as it looks like it will)? Is it still ok to miss 7 days of training?

Although I am not training to win races I do have goals in place and I follow a training programme. I also don't think it does any harm to ride in wet weather, what if you have trained for 6 months for an event and it rains on the day, are you not going to ride it?

Everyone has their reasons for riding.

IanJ, oh wise one!!!  I have always moaned and groaned about riding in the rain.  Then I was hit by Stage 1 in the Panorama and I started riding in the rain.  So I rather go out in the rain, even if I, like yesterday, only do about 25km.

The problem with drivers in Botswana is that they cannot drive in good weather let alone when its raining.

Its an absolute death trap to go out on the roads here in bad weather.

Thats why I am going to get myself a new IDT

Got pissed off with the whole spinning vibe.

Also rode MTB on Sat but Sunday was torrential.Worked then went home to enjoy a bottle of Chianti and Paris NiceClap

I never ride in the rain.

I never race in the rain.

I crashed twice in the rain.

If its raining and I feel the need to spin wheels, I go to the VA and do a spinning class or two, dry and comfortable and pretty woman to keep one interested.Big%20smile

If I was going to race and it rains - I stay at home and read the newspaper.

Riding / Racing in the rain increases your chances of an accident 100 fold, I personally see no reason to tempt fate, but I dont mind if others do.

I agree completely. I also can't stand all the muck to clean up after a wet ride.
