"The top racer has never been liked in the history of the Tour de France. It was true with Jacques Anquetil, it was true with Eddy Merckx, and it's being repeated now. But there must be a minimum of respect.”

I read this article a couple of days ago. Decided to post it to this thread because it's worth reading (my apologies if it has already been posted - haven't been on this thread in a while).

  1. Turns out there’s actually a French term for those who have this deep antagonism towards Sky, and will not accept anything positive about them no matter what the team does: la malaise Sky (‘Sky sickness’).
  2. Feedback from other teams and riders in the peloton that they don’t have any ill feelings towards Sky’s performances. Another reason for me to give Sky the benefit of the doubt. If there was a bubbling undercurrent of resentment from their competitors that would be a red flag for me. But none of that here.
  • Team manager of Europcar: “It’s indecent to cast doubt on the performances of Chris Froome.”
  • Sylvain Chavanel: “People should stop doubting everything. I can feel no unease in the peloton about Sky.”
  1. Interesting insight into how the big stars of the past had the same issues. “The Cannibal had been criticised as ‘robotic’, ‘machinal’ and lacking in human qualities". Sound familiar? (‘Skyborgs’). I never realized Eddy was ever accused of these traits.

I think the frenchies are just pissed that their 2nd-3rd duo from 2014 are damp squibbing through 2015 so they're trying to detract from SkyFroome down rather than support their own.

9th place on GC isn't great for a nation with hopes of glory this year....

Yes, and then MTNQ made things worse for them Saturday during the Pinot/Bardet Comedy Show, with their President waiting at the finish line.

Brrrrrrrr!

Weather: hot and sunny with tarmac-melting temperatures of 33˚C with a light 10km/h tailwind from the west.

Tarmac melting at 33 degrees?  :o  In that case most of the summer races in South Africa must take place on rivers of Tarmac then in Stellenbosch when the temps are 40 degrees? :P  :w00t:

The extra heat will "melt" the tarmac, it should then add some grip and they can descend a little faster down the last descent!

*edit* for emoticons to display tone :D
