A quick question to those that have done this before.

How critical is it to attend the race briefing on the Friday evening? I see it is only at 19:00. No point in driving through to the accommodation after registering the afternoon and then having to come back - and drive back in the dark...

Not important at all. Even if you manage to hear what Wikus is mumbling, nothing really important being said.

Jip, but nothing seriously difficult.

And yet, every year there are tales of tragedy and regret as riders take the wrong turn. These days, there are literally three turns you have to make on your own, and yet, a surprisingly large number of people are able to get that wrong.

To be fair, I did miss a turn in my very first event, but I've subsequently had 10 years of perfect navigation.

The other thing you want to watch for are the check points - these days it's only really BergPlaas that could pose a problem, all the others are right on the route. (Again, I have only made that mistake once).

Hi,

I'll be transporting bikes from Joberg to the start at Willowmore and collecting the bikes in J Bay when done.

Right now we are only doing the first event, if we have enough interest, we will look at the second event also.

If you are interested go have a look at our website www.myvelo.co.za

Doing my first this year! Excited and nervous. Have done a number of stage races, but nothing like this before. Fresh from Sani, looking to build from here.

Quick question; what sort of fitness would you expect from your team members at this stage?

My team members are in for a bit of a shock...have been of the bike for 2 months and started again this weekend with a 60. Will build up gradually and come race day should be ok. Will be my 6th this year so at least have some 'experience' to fall back on!

We also have an interesting team dynamic, have not ridden one of the previous 5 with the same people and none of us stay in the same city...

I send mine the occasional Whatsapp message. Right now - as long as they are alive, I'm happy. Still plenty of time to get fit and fast.

Very true. But you must also say that you are a beast when it comes to this kind of stuff and have ridden every one and you guys are podium or at least top 10 contenders.. :w00t:
