I have done the long look and study and info etc. etc. etc.

GP4000s are very good tyres and last long to boot.  I get around 10 000km on them.

I changed to Gatorskins for training and the HUGE difference in rolling resistance on the rollers can definitely be felt....or maybe I am just weird but it is there.

If you don't mind budget, your best tyre would be Vittoria Open Corsa.

10 000km... yohh !! Really? If thats the case i got to try them... (if its real)

I see cwc only has the 23mm GP4000s2 @ R550. Is this worth it? Or should one save up for the 25mm?

I have been riding 25 mm tyres for about 5 years now, and would not go narrower again. Just check that your frame can accommodate the 25mm tyres.

I have one bike where the front fork arch clearance is just 1 mm with the larger tyres.

Yep.  No BS.  I have the privilege to have a training wheel set and a racing set.  So new ones goes on the racing wheels and "old" racing set down to training.  After a year of racing the tyres are 12 months old and only have around 1300km on them.  Plus minus.

On the training set they last me roughly a year.  1000+ kilos per month gives you MORE than 10k a year.  But mostly I take them off because of all the cuts and cracks after 2 years of use.

Very important is to regularly check tyre pressure.  You get a lot of mileage out of a tyre if you don't ride it flat all the time.

At least twice a week.

What is the difference between running 23mm and 25mm?

Ive got 23mm Gators on at the moment and I run them @8.5bar to prevent any punctures, have not had any punctures yet  :whistling:

Rolling resistance.

I did not feel the difference between 23 and 25 though....

I have Schwalbe Tubeless 25mm tyres. I eventually got a spare set because I am worried I will struggle to get them when needed. I am totally convinced about tubeless (and 25mm). I also have Vittoria Open Corsa tyres 23mm on another set of wheels. I love the bigger contact patch on the 25mm.

Best tyres are Specialized Roubaix or Espoir. R499 from Concept.

Very Hardy tyres!!

I fully agree, i am running the espoir elite tyres with double black belt puncture protection 23 mm. Awesome tyres, grip and mileage and theyre not horribly expensive either. I rode the Roubaix as well, good tyres gery comfy but changed to the 23 mm size of the Espoir's. Not a fan of the 25 mm tyres anymore.
