According to www.yr.no who is normally very accurate with their forecasts, no rain is expected

yr.no for the win

i've had and (in)accuweather report stating that it was sunny and hot, while we had gale force winds and torrential rain.

loving the idea of lower temps, i don't function well in anything over 27deg

helps with the hydration. When it gets very hot one can very easily dehydrate and pop spectacularly, specially when you did not do heat training.

yep, happened to me on stage 2 of Lord of the Chainrings, everything was going very well until we hit the climbs with the temps hitting 42deg.

I bonked badly to the point of struggling to walk.

Lol..reading trough the comments makes me smile

Ouens is meer gepla oor strava as enige iets anders..lol

Here some advice..eat all the time ..drink lots..it gets chilly in the evening

Take eye drops

Take a small torch on your helmet incase you need to work on ur bike.

Take a protein shake halfway

Dont take your shoes of too long halfway if you are going to shower..your feet will swell alot.

Ride with surgical gloves underneath your normal gloves incase its might be cold.

Enjoy the race

The hotter temperatures make the air thinner, which means you can go faster!

Showers? Is this some top secret thing that only a few people in the inner circle know about? Then again, If I have a shower at 2 in the morning, I don't think I will want to get back on my bike!

I love the heat - will take that any time over having to wear arm warmers

Me too - spent the long weekend in bed. Made the rather amateur move of reading last year's race report:

http://www.velotales.com/2014/04/the-36one-challenge-2014.html and was even grumpier than I normally am when I get man flu.

Flip shame! well from today I need to get my legs going again and the positive thoughts flowing. Think all the flue meds killed my nervous butterflies in my stomach.

Have read your report probably 10 times now   and watched the 36One video on the site 20 times.

Not even the snakes scare me anymore, I just want my legs to work on the day!!!

Do you know if there is like an area where we can change clothes....just want to check otherwise the support at half way need to bring a towel for me to change behind...   :whistling: he he he my cycling tan is currently a sight for sore eyes  :w00t:

Think I read that there will not be showers this year.... as it was not really utilised in the previous years. (I could be wrong)

I have a question to all the expert techno guys... Can one use Strava on your phone with mobile data switched off? In an effort to safe battery life and also as a backup for my Garmin that will not last the whole race? What are your plans to "record" the full race?

Dont know about the data, but your gps positioning needs to be on and that drains phone energy. I am riding with an Amped charger that will charge my Cycleops Joule while I am riding. (when required) While training the charger took 1 hour to charge my battery of the Joule to full and I will probably get about 3 charges out of it for my gps. (Best I can use it for my phone also)

The guys previously said that Garmin can not be charged while riding. (go check the earlier posts on this thread)

that was the newsletter they sent out last week, and it was regarding sleeping facilities

Please note that there will be no formal sleeping facilities available en-route. This service was not utilised by the riders in the previous three years, therefore the decision to exclude this service.
