Morning all! Last week to get your head right I guess...

Anyone got some insight into the last, long climb in "stage 4". Is it a gravel road mountain pass kinda climb? And the descent?

The uphill:

It's not a steep descent - rather a long gradual downhill that twists and turns. Lots of fun. You leave the main district road and head onto a smaller farm road, before rejoining the district road just before the last water point.

Having started this chat forum back in October, just want to say big thanks and appreciation to all for all your input and advice and 'war stories to get the juices going.

Just thinking, I nearly bailed on this one....(must have been a reason I didn't get a buyer for the entry.) :whistling:  No turning back now!

Wishing you all safe travels and a superb, memorable race or ride...whichever you choose!

If you succeed in your quest to get to the finish, awesome stuff!! If you fail in your endeavors, always remember, 'Not finishing is always better than not starting!!

Good luck and God speed!

(look forward to the war stories afterwards)

And how is that "tricky" descent they talking about after the first big climb during Stage 1?? That one is going to be in the dark.

If they're talking about the dusty off camber twisty sweeping turns in the first hour of riding - be very careful. My partner came within 23mm of dying last year - completely overcooking one of the corners. If his tyre hadn't come off the rim and flung him into the air, he would have collided with a small concrete block head first. And I would have had to explain to his wife he wasn't coming home. Luckily, he just smashed up his knee, broke his glasses, bent his light. A quick limb count and CO2 canister later and we were one our way again.

As you can imagine, he took every corner from there on like a granny looking for parking at the mall...

From SnowReportSA:

The Western Cape should already be feeling effects of the approaching cold air. We are now starting to see moisture moving slightly inland, and there is now a chance of snow on some of the mountain ranges as indicated on the map below on Thursday this week. There is a chance that the snow could extend up further into the Eastern Cape Drakensberg late on Thursday, but we will update the map again tomorrow if this looks consistent over the next 24 hours. Snow falls are expected to be light and confined to the high peaks. Very cold air is moving in with this weather system, so we think that it is time to get the winter woolies out! (This time with the correct date on the Map!)
