Hi Hubbers what is the best mtb tyre pressure in PSI on a 29 maxxis tyre. The recommended pressure on tyre is 35 to 65 but it's too hard. The tyre is 29 × 2.10. Thanks boys and girls.

A baby baboon decided to charge me today in tokai on the silver mine loop. Het my @#$#$ afgeskrik want sy pa hou die petalje dop????

That depends on your weight, the terrain you ride, the tyre width and also whether it's tubeless or not. Tubeless can run lower pressures without risking pinch flats.

Try taking it down to 30 and then to 25 and see what you are comfortable with and what works for you.

if you can depress the top cap of the tyre about 5mm, it will be super grippy, but perhaps to slow-rolling for your liking. Never pressure the sidewalls: you dont ride on the sides. It's the top cap's compliance that gives you grip.

Increase pressure till you feel the grip is on the sketch side. Now you know your personal pressure envelope. Work within that range till you have a happy compromise.

How long is a piece of string??

Play around, there is no specific pressure, it's personal preference and feel!

There are basic guides, but it's how you feel.  Go to a nice trail and mess around with the pressures!!

Bloukrans, this topic has been covered at length on various similar threads on the hub. Do a search, lots of info going round. Here is a nice calculator to play around with: http://mtb.ubiqyou.com/

This will give you a good indication of where to start. Now you can do your own experimenting. Invest in a good floor pump with an accurate gauge.
