Here's my PYGA OneTen29 in it's latest form............YES, I know there's no dropper post!XT 11-42 with OneUp 42T and 16TXT Shadow+ RD, GSWolftooth NW 32T chainring with spacers+2 links in the chainC-guide Eco chainguideBefore you ask, I'm using the chainguide as I am not using the clutch, because I find shifting into the 36-42 range not as stiff this way and it avoids any chain slap I may have. I do have the OneUp RAD cage but have not tried it yet as I found everything works fine just with the b-tensioner fully in, did not need to remove the gromit.Gearing seems fine but I may try 34T up front and see if I can still make the hills!

I have the 32 Rapide upfront with a 42 on the rear, shadow XT Derailleur. Where did you get the RAD CAGE though? The shipping makes it quite expensive, did you get it locally?

Luckily, I managed to get everything from the U.S. when I was there a few months ago and it is not available here.

Agreed, it is quite expensive and still have not used mine as my XT seems to work nicely. If your setup is working fine I would not bother but I know some derailleurs can get a bit stiff going to the 42T, just make sure you have a long enough screw in your b-tensioner.

If you do get one, buy a spare. You don't want to pay for shipping again if you break one....

Thanks for the advice on SA shops, I would like to support the local guys (and their prices are great) but really like the look of the coloured chainrings from race face and wolf tooth. Any local guys that do coloured chainrings?

The story I got is that you can't get pretty colours if you want hard anodising which results in a sort of dull grey look but lasts much longer....you choose [emoji12]

Oh okay cool, Ya I would like to use Kalbo.co.za, just really in need of a chainring now and they are only getting stock on the 20th.

So are you then saying that Wolf tooth and race face are not hard anodized,

Also waiting for Kalbo. I dont know if the other brands are subjected to hardening treatments after machining but even basic anodising (with colour) does improve the durability of the surface.

A little bit of research at the Univ. Of Google tells me that hard-anodising produces a thicker less porous oxide layer on the metal surface that makes it very difficult to achieve consistent rich colour and most anodisers do not offer colours for hard anodised parts. Hard anodising is usually chosen when wear, corrosion and electrical resistance are overriding concerns for the part. Typical finish varies from grey to grey/brown to black and is rougher than normal decorative anodising.

So then....yes....it is very likely that the various brightly coloured 40/42 sprockets and NW chainrings are not hard anodised. Their durability may still be acceptable though. On conventional cranksets the larger chainrings are usually silver or black anodised ( not hard anodised) so durability of similar sized NW rings and rear sprockets should be somewhat similar .
