Its 9 days to go before the start of the Epic and you should be putting in the last big miles this week. If you are doing the Epic how is your training effected by the current weather in Gauteng, that is if you are in Gauteng.

I did my last big miles three weeks ago (if you don't count the 2 laps of the Argus). A little late now to be doing big miles...

The weather sucks. Sunday was the last chance to do seriuos training. Now it is short high intensity sessions just to keep reminding the body about VO2 Max, LT, FTP, and all that stuff... This is tapertime!

1 week before the Epic and you want to get in 2 * 5 hour rides? You are joking right? Not even I'm dumb enough to do that, and I'm pretty dumb!

Big miles this week... you serious??

This close, for this sorta race, these last few days are about resting enough (NB - sleep) and keeping healthy (trying not to get sick).

Most guys go to hard to close, and get there looking like they have done an epic already...

That's IMO though

Don't agree, during the road racing I train at my hardest the week of the races, the week of the Argus I still put in 12hrs of traing prior to the race, and on race day my legs where sweet. During stage races the first 3 days are hard, then it only gets better. For the Sabie experience I did a hard week the week the race started, and boy, what an easy race, no suffering ,my chain never saw the granny gear. Soi dont agree with your idea of tappering down, I will do that from Sunday onwards.
