All I know is that a Racing Ralph in front doesn't last due to sidewall cuts while a Crossmark at the back is holding up! Advice on tire combination needed please!

I had Racing Ralph front and back on my 26" DS. The RR has a very thin sidewall and I cut the rear tyre on my 2nd ride and punctured the front a few times. Currently I have Vredestein Black panther front and back, I weigh 86kgs and this works brilliant for me, a slightly harder tyre pressure in the back at 2.4bar and 2bar in the front prevents tyre roll as well as punctures. I've done about 80kms at Big Red Barn and about 100km at Groenkloof with no hassles. I stay away from Klapperkop due to the attacks, so can't comment on how it will last there

We have some very rocky sections here...my combo of Maxxis Ardent 2.25 at the front (run at 1.5 to 1.7) and Maxxis Crossmark 2.1 at the back (run at  1.7-1.8) has not given me any hassles in a couple of years I've been running it...No punctures or sidewall cuts.

Not a combo if you are worried about saving weight on tyres but bulletproof.

I take it you're not using the Snake Skins? Worth the extra bucks for tougher tyres.

Otherwise also been happy with Conti with ProTection  (i've only ridden the XKings, so can't speak from experience about the Mountain Kings / Race Kings).

Like the man said, not all tyres are equal...even if they the same name and brand.

Get the snakeskin versions in Schwalbe, tnt in GEAX, protection in conti and EXO in maxxis. For out rocky terrain it is the bare minimum.

So snakeskin is stronger than the standard sidewall?

Snake Skin in all Schwalbe and you are fine. I have NEVER cut a sidewall on a Geax (now known as Vittoria). Luck maybe. Just know Geax/Vittoria can be a B to fit on some rims. I ride Groenkloof lots.
