on the assumption that the route is a straightforward slog, i'd saying that average moving speed will be max 22km/h. Throw in 10 hours for stops and you get 55 hours.

Don't think so , this is a put your head down and look at your GPS . No navigation involved .

Think the non stop thing will be what the rasa type guys have going for them. most of the good XC/marathon guys are used to having a latte and a massage after 6 hours riding. ain't nobody got time for none of that here (even if it existed).

My out the blue ringer is Tim Deane - he's the most experienced adventure racer there.

Fantastic! Excited to be following this! I hope the inaugural Munga is a great success and becomes another premier South African event. Respect to the organizers who had the guts and determination to follow through with this despite some major setbacks. It shows true commitment.

I have a good number of multi-day stage races, such as Epic and JoBerg2c under my belt as do a number of other competitors but I know that races of that nature do not prepare you for something like The Munga. It is a bit like comparing table tennis with lawn tennis. There's a net, a ball and something to hit the ball with, but the skills are not portable except that you have demonstrated good hand-eye coordination which is an essential skill for both. So you have done an Epic. You have shown that you can ride a bike, and you think you know what it means to suffer. In reality, you've merely got the basic skills. You have arrived at the start of the endurance game. Welcome. Place your token on the start square and roll the dice...
