I want to buy a multisport heart rate Monitor with a GPS for my wife as a Christmas present.

Must be multisport (run, bike and swim) with a build in GPS

What do you recommend ? (Polar, Garmin or Bryton Amis S630R )

I'm drawn to the Bryton, but Polar got the name and after sales support ?

My budget around R4000

The default multisport watch would be the Garmin 910, but it is not in your budget, and for these type of GPS watches you would be looking at around R6k, saw the Tom-Tom the other day, it has no HR Strap, but also around R6k. Maybe look at Bryton, although I have heard mixed stuff about their software.

I have always enjoyed what Polar offers,

I have Le Tour De France edition of RC3 GPS. Great watch, that gives loads of info, comes with Speed and Cadence sensors ... ! yr old, but I want the latest V800 If interested in buying Let me know, It cost R4000 I have all original packaging. I want R2500.

For around 6K you can get the V800

Thanks,

Suunto and Garmin 910XT licence the Firstbeat technology for measuring Training Effect and EPOC. These are extremely important for training with proper recovery.

Counting your heart beat is elementary compared to the measurements that Firstbeat does.

I'd be interested in how well that TomTom multisport with the HR monitor built into the watch strap works. If it's reliable then I'd rather go for that than a chest strap. Saw that going for R4500, which seems pretty reasonable.

Ambit 3 makes me weak at the knees. Suunto is an awesome product. The new smart belt is also really cool the way it records without the watch. Great for swimming and any activity where the watch will be in the way. CrossFit etc. but it's expensive.

I have the tomtom multisport(non cardio) and I really like it, it works fine for what I want it to do.

The only problem I have with it is that it doesnt have a proper triathlon mode, you have to end exercises and switch them in transitions. Still for R3400 with watch, bike mount, speed/cadence and HR its really good value.

Its also quite handy in that it can upload directly to strava and a few other sites.
