Some wisdom I learnt recently. 

 

I have a Niner RLT.  You not going to fit anything more than a 40mm tyre on the bike due to clearance issues.  On badly corrugated roads, 40mm is not ideal. 

 

So how to fit a MTB tyre? In my noobness I thought a MTB tyre of 2.2 would be too wide, not the case, it's too high for the frame.

 

So I tested a set of 27.5 wheels and it works near perfectly with a 2.1 - 2.2 tyre!!!

 

So that will be my next purchase to make to bike handle tougher terrain.

Have to agree with you. My monster / gravel / pavement special bike is also running on 2.25 tyres now. ( first attempt was 1.9)

Stunning.... we have very similar taste in bikes sir. That is exactly what my Niner would have looked like. Great build.
