i am using chinese carbon tubeless rims laced to novatec hubs. As for bars I am using Ritchey evomax which has extra flare when riding in drops

Easton also has a similar bar, available in alu and carbon

Flare is less pronounced on the Ritcheys. They're not true dirt drops such as the Midges, Chippers etc but will work very nicely in milder gravel tourer type bike. i.e.: what most here ride as a gravel grinder.

I see all these post by ask Mat from cotiic to get a frame but I had such a k@k experience with him, order the bike on the wednesday he said I am to late for next week delivery so I will have to wait 2 weeks, no probs

Contact him after 2 weeks he will get back to me

Phone, sms, whatsapp he just ignores me, I ordered in November, I have just decided screw him If you don't want my business I will find someone who does

Anybody know where I can get hold of an alu CX frame or complete bike in the 10k range size 48-52?

Must say, that's really unlike Matt to ignore messages etc. he doesn't hold much stock so sometimes there delays - which to me is acceptable and understandable. He usually communicates this pretty well.

Thanks, I will stick with the Midges. I find them great.

Hi guys

My Giant TCX SLR 2 has some TRP Spyre-C, Mechanical disc, 140mm brakes.  These have virtually zero stopping power.  Any idea for a relatively cheap upgrade?

What are the chances of using MTB calipers?

I am using them as well and find them more than adequate. What type of brake housing are you using? Needs to be compressionless. Were the pads bedded in properly? How much pull have you got at levers before the pads engage?

Am using 160mm discs

The cheapest way would be to fit an adapter and larger (160mm) disks.

Next is to fit TRP RD/HY or Hope V cable to hydraulic brakes. I have used both and both work very well

Got the bike second hand.  The brake and shifting cables were configured a sort of a spiral, which made the look pretty neat and tidy.  This might however affect the breaking if they are wrapped to tightly around each other I suppose?

Will first try freeing up the cables a bit and then maybe some bigger rotors.

If they not compressionless the brakes will feel spongy.

I've got a set of Avid BB7's on my Mercer on 160mm rotors front and rear. They had no stopping power until I bedded them in on my local steep descent - now I can pretty much come to a stop with my rear brake only and I'm using sintered pads.

I explored getting a Hope V-Twin cable-to-hydraulic adapter then using MTB calipers, but my brakes work perfectly well for the type of riding I do (mostly road). I was going to get some TRP Spyre C's as the pad changing is a million times easier than the Avids, but now I am broke.

For the price of TRP HY/RD's, Hope V-Twin or similar I feel that you may as well buy a set of shifters (cable shift+hydraulic brake), if you're gonna spend 2/3rds of the cost on something else then may as well go all out? :P upgrade bug is real.

So the order I would do things in is:

1. Bed brakes in properly

2. Bigger rotors

3. TRP HY/RD

4. Hope V-Twin adapter

5. New all-in-one shifters and calipers for a fully hydraulic system
