Tyre Burping

I changed from Easton Haven AM's to Enve, and suddenly my WTB Bronson is having this (burping) problems. It is the Xc Enve's, and a 2.3 Bronson. Do I run a higher PSI, or do I have to go for a narrower tyre?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Note: It only happened once after landing a jump / endo with the front wheel not "exactly" facing forward.

Maybe you'd just lost a bit of pressure in the tire itself? Did you check pressure prior to riding? Shouldn't have done that on the ENVEs. They were the TCS Bronsons, right?

I ran 2 bar / 29 psi, ( On the floor-pump, I know its not always accurate.). Yes its the TCS.

It was my first ride on the new setup, maybe its a once off.

Thanks for the reply!

save yourself some hassle, and just add more pressure.

Some tires, or tire+wheel combos will burp and bleed no matter what you do. I have exactly that type of rear tyre at the moment. Fresh after being mounted and first huck to flat, it burped all the sealant in one huge mess. But after increasing the pressure and slightly compromising the grip in the process, it now only bleeds sealant via the tyre/wheel interface. This using fully UST compliant wheels with tubeless ready tyres.

When inflating to seat the bead, inflate to a nice high pressure, close to max if need be. The bead should pop into place a few times well before then though. Bounce the wheel on the floor a few times as well. It can help to seat a stubborn bead.

I had similar issues on the normal Schwalbe tires.  The snakeskin seems to be a bit better on a non tubeless rim.  For my money I would go with the Geax/Vittoria range.  Make sure you buy the TNT model(Tube/no tube).  Sidewalls are stronger and the bead does seem to fit tighter on the rim than a lot of other brands.

I know you said you ran the Geax before, but were they the TNT range?  Any tire that does not have a reinforced sidewall will burp air, especially on a narrow rim that is not tubeless specific.

Create a bead bump using electrical tape and then rim tape. This stops the tyre poping off the rim sidewall.

Nice idea, but makes it EXTREMELY hard to get the tyre on and seated

True, you need the perfect fit. Does help when you do it a couple times a day. Mainly used when rim/tyre combo is very loose. ie. Old Enve's and Shwalbe tyres[emoji85]

I fitted some new 650b's during the week. Same setup as you describe. It took me about 45 min to get each tyre on

It's amazing what a tiny amount of sunlight soap rubbed onto the bead will do.

All the new WTB tyres come in either single ply sidewalls for lightweights or dual ply toughness for heavyweights. Exceptfor the 26" tyres - they all dual. There is a massive difference in the wall thickness between the two. So I now run the tougher tyre at the back with the faster rolling lighter one on the front. Has given me lots more confidence in the handling of my 98kgs on all types of trails with jumps and drops. And yes, I know I am biased because I sell them. But I ride them because I believe in them too.
