...is not rain water!

Riding along merrily this morning before the rain started, I came across this innocent enough looking puddle. Because it was taking up all the available trail and the fact that I was on a mountain bike, I thought "I'm having this!", and proceeded forth. It wasn't until I was about 5m in and half of the way up to my hubs that I started regretting my decision.

Then the wall of stench hit me!

I could not let anything, and I mean ANYTHING, other than the rubbery bits on my bike touch that water so I dumped the gears and went into low range mode, employing a brisk yet cautious cadence. Thankfully, after some furious gagging, I made it through relatively unscathed. Spruit water has a bad reputation as is but this is not spruit water. This is spruit water percolated through the bowels of hell! This is a word of warning when passing through the area, unless of course you happen to be one of the Poo Fighters™, in which case bring the family down and have a picnic. Ground zero is about one click south of the Bryanston Scout Hall, opposite the golf course.

Also, take caution on Bundaberg today. I was blown clean out of my cleats in a spectacular OTB this morning. There is a trench on the southern end and it was filled with running water. The action of said water seems to have carved the trench into a 'v' shape now whereas before it was more of a 'u' shape. Also, submerged under that water now lies a hidden solid object. As it turns out, that object has the ability to make your bike stop dead while you hurtle forth with your feet in the air and your head in the ground. My brother is still laughing at me.

Good day!

Well, atleast we know who patient zero is when news starts to circulate about some crazy infectious disease spreading through Joburg.

The kind of disease that makes your tottie fall off.

I don't think this is the first time in that area.

The bottom of Albert's Farm also had an accident a few months ago. The give away that it isn't nice rain water (beside the smell) is the toilet paper :(

Sad state of affairs when there is sewerage flowing out in the open.

Rode past it on Wednesday afternoon, it's disgusting. Looks like it may be a burst sewerage line there was still foul smelling water gushing out of a hole just to the left on your photos.
