So here we are,2nd week in simonstown, had awesome riding weather the first week, but now the wind is blowing like nobody's business. Where can we ride where the wind won't blow us away? We already rode at Tokai (still having heartburn because of the entry fee),did chappies, and redhill, but looking for a trail to ride. Are we allowed to ride the hiking trails? I see there is a lot around glencairn ect.

Unfortunately I don't think you will be able to escape the wind much. However, in my experience Meerendal in Durbanville is more sheltered, but not totally absent of wind (sorry, know it's not near Simons Town either).

Other than that you would need to leave Cape Town area to get away from the wind, rode out in Elgin valley yesterday and it was near breathless.

I'm still learning to be one with the wind, but it is not easy.

Hope you find a spot..

Did Paul Cluver yesterday.  The wind blew but it was not to bad.  With all the single track, you are a bit protected.

You will go far to beat Jonkies early morning.  To re-fuel after the ride, Ride-in has the best coffee in the area and a breakfast & vibe to match.

corriekuilder,

Even without the wind, no visit to the Cape is complete without a Jonkershoek ride. On the valley floor you will sometimes get a bit of wind but on the slopes it is less obvious and you will be raving about the view and trails so much, wind will be the last thing on your mind. Elgin also has a choice for you with Lebanon, Paul Cluver and Oak Valley. Here's a shot of jonkershoek for ya.

Wind? This is not wind :P

You Northern Folk must HTFU that's why you couldn't win the Currie Cup in this light breeze

Lol

I was in Cape Town before Christmas and it blew like hell.Even Durbanville was the pits. When the SE is blowing big time head for Bains and Welvenpas or over the berg to Lebenon,Oak Valley etc...or take up kite boarding

I don't have an issue with riding in the wind, but it becomes an issue when I am going faster sideways than forward, lol. Whats the costs for elgin, starting point, grading ect please?

Not 100% sure about all options but I know, for example, Lebanon is R25. Oak Valley is, I think, R40. Jonkers is also R25 and in my opinion, the best bearing in mind cost, location(less to drive) and the simply great breakfast afterwards at Ride-in.

At OP ..take the traffic into consideration as well....it can be a crazy at times....coming back to Simonstown ....why not by that bulk entries to the parks....and go ride in the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve...no trails...lots of tar though...☺
