I will put you in a race against my 11 year old on his 26'er down the Tokai trails and see if your 29 can keep up ;)

You can't be serious, your son to beat a hard woman who races MTB's over insane distances and to top it all she is a beer connoisseur who cooks food in a bikini ............

It definitely helps starting with the right friends/people. Me and 2 mates each spent 4k on bikes in 2011. We pushed each other, or actually they just pushed me pretty much, but we are still riding, now on much nicer bikes, longer distances, stage races etc etc. Without them, it may not have become so addictive.

Once you lose people to ride with, unless you seriously love it and fit enough to continue on your own, you tend to just stop doing it. So many people are like this, my wife included, but this year I plan on changing that.

Having mates to ride with sure helps and it is amazingly easy to pick up good friends out and about on a bike.

Call it a hunch but I think he just might despite the debilitating 26 inch wheels underneath him...

A bit unfair that would be, knowing how your 11 year old rides! Poor Cleats' self image will go the same way mine has gone!
