JA its NOT funny the pained look most LBS's give you when you ask if they will do a trade in...

Then they say sure and proceed to offer you a ridiculous low amount...

Its probably best to take the LBS "offer" for a quick and clean disposal.... otherwise wait for the peak cycling season (i.e. when everyone starts thinking about Argus and 94.7) and then try sell privately....but then you have to field a million questions

Dont expect to get a descend price for your old ride. You will be severely ripped off.

its  a bike just a fair price, i would take a knock rather just saying DEAL take it, rather than sit watching your account because "the money has been transfered"

Okay. Point taken. I have never been taken for that.

Greg Alberts from Cycleshere here in Durban trades bikes.

He has another shop called Urban cycles where he sells the used bikes from.

Very clever business...

Web site called 'bike bay' . Ive bought twice through them. You can either sell to them or they will sell for you for a commission. Guy called Gert runs it.

We've recently launched an online bike shop that offers this service:

http://re-cycling.co.za/pages/re-cycle-your-bike.

Chat to us about what you have and  what you're looking for and we'll help you out. We have an affiliation with a number of bike shops, so have a handful of new bikes available too that currently aren't listed in the online store. Some good deals on end of range brand new bikes....

Why don't you just sell it on the Hub?

I have never had a problem selling bikes and frames for a fair price

I think OP means Trade in as in takes a chunk off the price of a new bike rather than cash.

However for the others in JHBI contacted this guy when I wanted to sell my bike, of course price is lower than a straight out sale but less hassle ( ended up selling on hub though)
