Sometimes your legs just dont want to cycle.

I am a fairly fit guy. Well, i like to think so. Do about 150km of cycling a week, so not a nutter that spends hours a day on the bike but i can normally do 100km in one go and not bitch about it....

Its now been about a week since i cycled cause of some situations... this morning i got on the bike to do a simple 35km ride to work. Jeez did i struggle. Legs just did not want to work with me. Did not want to climb or do any hard work.

I have noticed this in the past (winter time) when i put the bike down for 2 weeks or longer. Usually only with the first ride i struggle and then the rides that follow i am fine...

Why does this happen? Is it diet related? Is just my body losing fitness quickly? What am i doing wrong?

See if it continues. One ride is not enough to judge if it will persist.

It happens. Just go out and ride and enjoy whatever you can manage. But keep and eye on how you're feeling before, during and after. I find that when I'm training consistently, what I put into my body has a HUGE bearing on what I get out...

And most of all, when things don't go as planned (read: expected) don't beat yourself up

Same here. I think its just a fitness level that one needs to break through. Watch what you eat and keep doing what you're doing. The rust will burn loose from the engine. Thats what everyone keeps telling me......I haven't done so yet.

Well.. i made it to work. Bad news is if the weather prediction is correct i have a 37.1kph (20 knotts) SE head wind on my way back home later today.

I do think this can be diet related as well.

Must be that aggressive Reacto frame!  It will slice through that wind on the way home!

Issue with the legs is just the lactic acid waking up.  Should go after a few rides.

The wind is diet related? Ease off on the beans and cabbage then.

Although I'd expect that sort of wind would actually help with propulsion.

A week off the bike and your body starts detraining, plasma volume reduces, slight reduction in VO2, muscles store less glycogen. It begins the journey back to couch potato.

Punish it for it's insolence by doing hard intervals on the way home.

Haha, ja ne. Found that crosswinds with the reacto can be a bit of biatch. Imagine with deeper aero wheels it will even be worse.

We started our diet this week, and I must say I am paste. This morning took another route to work. Route was 5km more, but with a bit of hills in for fun, and at one stage, it felt like my legs were cast in marble.

Every pedal was hard work. Even contemplated phoning my fiancee to come and get me at the office.

I hope that this afternoon will be better.

perhaps, it could be the onset of a cold or your body fighting some form of infection?

and babbelas...don't forget babbelas

Hmm, wonder if that might be part of my problem. Had a 2x Double Chivas 12 year last night.... Might have touched my legs a bit.
