And their contact number ends up being a fax....

But seriously what is this increase about, and what is this Western Cape affiliation fee nonsense?

Edit: R145 now not R245

It is a dictatorship. We dont have any other plave to go, that justifies the almost 100% increase.

Absurd!

Seems the 'licence' is still the same they have just added some sort of group cover.

The MSA (Motorsport SA)  also have done this where they FORCE you to take their insurance even though the medical aid you have, has you covered for events. Pisses me off immensely.

This is as per the CSA website:

License structure explained

Membership:  A membership of Cycling SA costs R120.00 per year. Valid for 12 months. A membership holder is entitled to enter any event, irrespective of discipline without having to purchase a day license. A member is allowed to participate in a national series event, but will not be eligible for national or provincial selection. A membership of Cycling SA, is the most basic form of license and is an agreement of the rider to abide by the rules of the event in which they participate.

Breakdown for 2015 CSA Membership Fee:
  • Standard Fee (CSA Membership)           R75.00
  • Group Insurance Cover                        R38.00
  • Loyalty Card Fee                                 R 7.00

R38.00 Group Insurance Cover:

  • Medical Insurance through Hollard, includes free Road Cover
  • Road Cover will facilitate claims for any injuries during training and racing, against the Road Accident Fund
  • Policy covers all commissaires (who are members) who sustain any medical conditions whilst officiating at sanctioned cycling races.

Full Racing License:  This category of license is for riders from the age of 17 years old who wish to be eligible for provincial and national selection and respective colours award. The bearer of a full license is entitled to partake in national championship or series race and be seeded accordingly. Those of who race in the UCI categories (Junior, U23 and Elite) earn UCI points which will assist them in being seeded at future UCI category events, world cups and championships. The cost of a full racing license is R350 per year, and the applicant has to be member of an affiliated club, as well as be a registered member of Cycling SA. These can be done simultaneously.

Day License:  The Day-license is designed to allow the absolute new-comers to the sport to participate within the rules and regulations of the sport. These participants, who do not hold a full license or membership, need to purchase a day license. By purchasing a day license the rider agrees to participate in the event and abide with the rules of the event and those of Cycling SA for that day. A day license costs R35.00 and is only valid for one day.

Provincial levy:  Some provinces charge an additional levy to assist with the development and running of the provincial structures. These levies vary from province to province. Your province, which is made up of the clubs will provide the information as to what and how these funds are utilised within your province, as these are determined by the input from clubs at regional and provincial meetings. The various provinces levies are: Gauteng Central - R75, Gauteng North - R50; Kwazulu Natal - R50; Free State - R75; Eastern Province - R50; North West - R75; Limpopo  - R50; Mpumalanga - R25; Northern Cape - R50; Southern Gauteng - R50; Western Cape - R25

Edit to add: I see the group cover is for Road Cover and accessing the RAF if there is an accident during an event. How does this help me as a MTB'r. I don't compete on the roads ever.

I don't understand the insurance. As the RAF already covers someone cycling on the road and getting hurt??

Then the other card thing I don't want, have enough of those that were free

But you can claim currently from the RAF as a cyclist being injured on the road.

My assumption is that the cover will give you access to lawyers (i.e. they will claim on your behalf), but that is purely a guess.

Regardless, I don't need the Road Cover, the legal cover and I too don't want another loyalty card cluttering up my wallet.

Personally..I really don't have a hassle with the cost. Its not a massive amount and costs me less than a crate of beers.

As for the insurance..I wish R38 was all I had to pay for my own personal insurance!

From what I read and understand the Group Insurance isn't limited to Road..its additional..and I do use the road on occation

In my opinion, I think the extra is justified as explained here.....

Cycling SA has finalised a medical expenses benefit with Hollard Insurance Company. Each member will receive a benefit of up to R20,000 for the actual medical expenses incurred for any incident  whilst riding or competing on their bicycle. The policy is fully downloadable off the membership website. Coupled to this, is the automatic assistance of Road Cover. Effectively, if whilst riding your bike, you are involved in an accident on the road, any claim with the Road Accident Fund will be handled by Road Cover, whilst your medical expenses up to R20,000 will be covered by Hollard Insurance Company. This offer is only available to all Cycling SA members.

RAF has bogger all money. Ask anyone who had tried to claim as a cyclist...

if the 38 bucks covers you outside of csa sanctioned events (i.e in general training or riding) then it's well worth it
