BarHugger Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 So.... Choosing to post for the first time on this thread may be a mistake, but here goes. By way of introduction, I started cycling again during the December holidays for the first time in twenty years. I cannt believe I waited so long to do it.I don't consider myself a mountain biker, yet, I consider myself a returning cyclist riding a mountain bike. If skill level is graded from 0 to 10, I'd say confidently that right now I'm about a -3... I went to NF for the first time last Sunday. And what an eventful morning it turned out to be. Got there just after 6, on my first ride out I went past that poor bloke who had the bad tumble (the NF FB page says he is recovering well) and on my second ride out came upon the bike-jacking scene a few minutes after it happened. Having said that, I loved the place, and can't wait to go back this Sunday. For the record, I did the 12km 'green' route, which for me at this stage of my fitness and skill level was just about perfect. Speed-wise I'd say I kept a solid average speed of about 4 miles a weekend, give or take, but I had an absolute blast.. My goal this Sunday is two try do two laps of the 12km route as a single ride... My question to you folks is this... I was very conscious of being a nob and not wanting to break any rules. I noticed several boards where the track was two way, and that we were to keep left, which I did religiously. A few times though I had much faster riders come toward me, two and three abreast, who for the most part forced me to go off the track. (they stayed abreast as they came past me) What is the rule/etiquette in a situation like that? Stop, move to side of track, take out cell phone, take pic of said riders and post on the HUB........... try to post on a Friday and enjoy the family fight. But to answer your question.........it is not a race event and no sponsors are around........your safety is more important so do what is appropriate for that specific situation. Realize that there are some seriaaaas douche bags out there and that it is their only way and means of validating their existence. Smile and wave...................
BarHugger Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Okes please this is a very very very serious thread for some people Please respect that
Guest Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 They should have gone into single file so each party could pass each other safely. That is the normal action in such an event. Nature however is very cruel and some people are born without common sense. For these we need to make compensation.
Cois Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I agree with this. Screw the bloke going STRAVA!!! If you can't take the speed stay off the tracks or take up road cycling. There you can go nuts and scream at everyone to keep left. .your safety is more important so do what is appropriate for that specific situation. Realize that there are some seriaaaas douche bags out there and that it is their only way and means of validating their existence. Smile and wave...................
Wyatt Earp Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 What is the rule/etiquette in a situation like that? The rule is that they go in to single file, their arrogance however will not abide by that rule .
SteveJhb Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I suspected so, thanks. I'm just out there to ride and have fun so I'll just give the guys space and let them be on their way.
Guest notmyname Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 http://www.sayellow.com/@2?wr=10&Cli_ReferenceNumber=1,016,806 Brutal!
V12man Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Remind me again, how defending an elder lady's right to ride makes us lower grade? I feel quite the opposite, I'd just like to thank all of you for being the other type of guy on the singletrack! I've read this thread to my mom and whilst we laugh and joke, she has seriously asked me where she CAN actually ride now. She feels she is not welcome on the trails and would rather stick to road, where she's never been belittled. So again, thanks for the support for her... Unfortunately, in a sea of positivity, it only takes one wave to knock you flat.Your mother is WELCOME on any trail I ride - anytime she needs a shield, let me know - I am good at pretending to have short man syndrome.... especially for Tjops with wannabe doctorates...
marko35s Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 It's amazing that my youngster at 11 years old and who catches up with slower riders on ST very often knows well enough to slow down, not get too close and wait until the rider makes space for him to pass. And here we have someone that purports to be a functioning adult but cannot apply the same common sense and courtesy.Maybe it's the lack of a dodgy PhD that keeps my lad in line...
