According to SPCA and Animal Anti cruelty as long as the dog is well looked after it is OK?

He actually said to me that LOTS of people complain, but the animal is in good condition???

So that makes it OK?????????

I can not believe that is how animals are viewed.

AGAIN, TIE THE CREATURE WHO SAYS THIS  TO A POLE

ill feed him give him water does that mean he is in GOOD CONDITION, and its ok??

as many have said before some people should not be allowed to multiply

and sadly most people should not have the privelage of a SHARING TIME WITH WHAT COULD BE YOUR BEST FRIEND

The problem is, we see the pup as a pet and a friend, they see him as a tool, nothing more.

He has a purpose, and as long as he breathes and barks, no problem. they will provide what he needs to stay alive, and that's it.

Basically a breathing screw driver.

That is the way it works, unfortunately.

It is not illegal to tie up a dog, just look around and you will find many examples. It's sad, but that's just the way it is.

And it's not just in SA. Even in countries like the USA, many dogs spend the better part of their lives on chains.

It makes me sick to even think about it.

They're giving anyone who handles working dogs a terrible name.

A friend of mine used to be with the SAPS dog unit and I have never seen anyone who loves his dogs more.

Also recently read a book about military working dogs that work with the US Navy SEALS, and yes, those dogs aren't the kind to play with your kids, but, they are treated so well. They get buried with full military honours if they die in combat, and a lot of the guys from the teams take them when they retire so they don't get separated.

I'd love to see the kind of people I mentioned above get these idiots treating their dogs like this in a quiet corner with no cameras or witnesses...

I hate that you are right, but that is the world we live in.

I abhor cruelty to animals in any form, dogs need mental as well as physical stimulation, especially intelligent animals like this, that we treat them so badly is beyond me.

I remember many years ago I cycled past a house where there was a dog chained to a post, it was a beautiful animal that in my mind was been abused. It had a wooden shelter and food and water but was left out in the blazing sun all day, you could make tea from the water in its bowl was so hot. Sometimes I would put a few dog chews in my pocket, cycle out and toss them over the fence to him. One day I found him chewing his wooden box in frustration, I called but he just continued chewing, I was distraught and called the SPCA, they promised to come out and remove the dog. They never did and the dog continued chewing his box.

A few days later when I was in a bad enough mood not to care after a tough day I got in my car and drove to the house, I went in and told the owner I wanted to buy the dog how much does he want. He said 1000 bucks, he took a chance and he knew it, but I was over the moon, he grabbed the money and I grabbed the dog, my brother took the dog and it lived a long happy life on his smallholding near the Vaal Dam running and jumping and doing everything dogs do.

I often cycled past there later to see if they had just gone and gotten another dog, but they never did.

We need to care, animals are Gods little gifts to us, it is our duty to look after and care for them.

Easy...do this...the security company has to be registered with PSIRA. Check if they are, also they need to be registered for dog handling..the guard also needs to be registered with PSIRA..you cannot just take a dog and place him, contact psira and they might take action. If the guard and the company is not registered they will be arrested..easy..

Yesterday I heard this story on Cape Talk about a guy from newlands who often hikes up the mountain with his dog. My version of the story has many holes since my memory sucks but I'll try anyways.

I'm not sure what breed she was but Bella weighed 45kg.

So a few days ago he went up (I'm assuming rhodes or something) with his dog Bella as he usually does. He mentioned their ascent on that day was about 400m vertical.

Bella started falling behind and wasn't running upfront like she usually does.

After checking to see why he noticed that Bella was bleeding at the paws from broken glass or something. He decided that it would be best to continue climbing as the descent would be much quicker on the other side of the mountain and his wife could just collect them both there. Bella was very reluctant to proceed further uphill as she probably understood going down as going home.

He spent hours nursing her step by step paw by paw over rock by rock trying to get her to keep climbing so they could go home. He carried her where he could but at 45kg it seemed impossible. After hours and hours of pushing on Bella collapsed. Probably from dehydration and possibly blood loss. He stayed with her as she lay there but then the sun was starting to set.

I have two dogs and the next part kills me. He made the very, very tough decision to leave her there and started heading home to try and find some help. But he knew that getting help to rescue his dog atop a mountain after dark was not going to happen. As he descended he cried thinking about his kids and what he would tell them when they asked where Bella was.

On his way down, two guys were making their way up. I know nothing more than the fact that they were two random guys. He stopped them and explained the situation and what he had been through. He asked them to stop where she was and give her some love. They responded by saying that they would get his dog and bring her down. He tried explaining to them that she was very heavy and that he tried with little success. But they insisted.

He waited there for them and when it got dark he assumed they realised what an impossible task it was and that they probably gave up and moved on. Then he saw them. Carrying her. Each taking turns every few minutes. Step by step bringing her home.

Last I heard Bella was home with some bandaged paws and doing well.

Got me all misty eyed this one.

I've seen that dog tied up at Balmoral.

I didn't know that he/she was being subjected to his kind of treatment though.

I hope he/she finds a happier place and kind caregivers.

Thank you to all for making an effort to change this dogs life.
