Hay fever out on a ride

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

While riding out in the veld I sometimes suffer from hay fever. It is quite irretating cycling with an itchy nose and eyes. I have to constantly sniff and swallow some "snot" which affects my breathing and what not.

What sort of medication do you guys use before a ride or during a ride that does not enhance performance or gets you suspended\banned from racing ever again?

Long term: if it is acute get a cortizone shot. It lasts ne about six months. It is called something solispam.

Its that good?

I battle terribly with scratchy eyes, runny nose and constant sneezing.

Especially this time of year.

I normally take a texa antihistamine daily.

This has the makings of a cleverly disguised doping thread....

Hahaha. My thoughts as well while typing up this topic. I have now edited my wording to state I'm looking for non performance enhancing medication.

That all does not work for me at all. I have it twice yearly and it does it for me. Celestone Solispam. Just called the doc.

Grow some "cajones" and hawk a loogie!

You pink silk blouse you!

Or Deselex.

:whistling:

hehehe, that reminds me of another discomfort I experience from time to time. I get shocked on the b@lls when riding underneath electrical wires. Imagine having an itching nose, itching eyes, snot to contend with and your b@lls gets electrocuted while doing a race.

Loratadine. One pill each morning from about Sept to middle Dec for me. Each year. When it gets really bad a sniff of Flomist helps. As well as riding with an asthma pump. It got that bad few years ago.

When it comes to hayfever pills that's never an easy 1. What works for one person doesn't work for the next. I take 1 Allergix and hit out the park for a 6. My GF on the other hand takes 2 and it does nothing for her.

At present i'm using NeoClarityne which works for me without the drowsiness.

I guess it comes down to trail and error.

I don't ever want to hear about your balls again, Ed.

EVER.

FWIW, Deselex also has a generic called Desaway... works for me! And a fair bit kinder on the pocket than Deseway.

I also use a mild cortisone spray I feel it coming on - Clenil Aq.

Do you withdraw at that point?
