I started as a way to keep fit when my knee started hurting from jogging. Once I tried my first proper trail, I was hooked. Best way to see new places, great adventures.

I started cause I remembered what fun it was as a kid. Unfortunately I started as a smoker and super unfit.... i finished Ironman a year later tho and stopped smoking. Now i ride my MTB when i get a chance between Wedding plans and life. Once in a while I ride road still. Very fortunate to have many wonderful trails close by.

Which trails do you ride?

A colleague dared me to enter the Cape Argus in 2012 so I did and bought myself a Schwinn Moad Elite (great entry level MTB).

Since then I have quit smoking, lost 10kg, sold my car, bought more bikes and commute to work on a bicycle daily.

I ride because it has improved my life and it makes my heart smile :)

Mostly Jonkershoek however i have done Helderberg Farm aswell and G-Spot. Oakvalley is a nice alternate as well. Schapenberg used to be one of my favorites now its less so, mostly due to safety concerns. Would still one day like to try Table mountain area, Tygervally MTB club area ,Walvenpass and all the trails out towards Grabouw (Paul Cluver etc).

When time pinches i ride the Southey's Vines MTB Park as its close and free.

Jonkershoek is good start. Just look at trail maps first otherwise u miss single track easily. Jonkers also cheapest by far R25. And I am sure someone on hub will be there most days if u want a tour :)

My Ballie was always into bikes and raced road as a semi-pro in Europe when he was younger, So he got me a BMX when i was like 5 and i began racing ... moved on to road and MTB when i was about 13 when my dad was racing Nationals MTB and was one of the guys in charge of KZNMTB (Natal MTB as it was then called). So i got into it through him as we used to go to the races and race together. Been riding and racing MTB's since 1993.

Why do i do it? Its in my blood!!

EDIT - And now i can rag my Ballie as I have a world title to my name, while he only has a couple of National titles to his ... hahaha
