i need to go wolverine on the back of the taxi,if it's fast rolling. Would i notice the differance between that and the 2.3 vigilante that I have on there now?

YES.

Wolverine has far shorter, closer spaced knobs (like Jo'burg city centre, actually) and rolls beautifully. It's a bit pressure sensitive, and likes to be run a bit harder than normal cos the sidewalls aren't as thick as a Super Gravity or Snakeskin tyre, but they're pretty tough nonetheless. Only had one gash and that was thanks to a dagger-shaped rock that I just rolled off at the wrong angle. Stitched it up again, applied a patch internally and HEY presto. Good as new. I think I ran it for another 6 months or so like that, not a problem

You can get the Wolverines and most other WTB in two ply sidewall. Really thick like the SG tyres.

Some say the short, closely-spaced knobs are all riding the Braamfontein Spruit  ;)

great review... im on an 2012 AM3 - well still more than 50% AM3. I put an RP2 in the rear but always keep my eye out for a 200 x 57 monarch RT3.  I've got a Highroller on the rear and DHF EXO on the front. my bike does climb okay-ish I think.  However the thought of getting it lighter has always crossed mind, especially since most of my rides are between the 20 to 30km mark.

Having said that, I really don't mind climbing cause I know what happens when descending.  I've been on the bike for little over 1.5 years now and I still feel like I am getting to know the bike. my wheelset (ex tyres) is still stock mavic xm319s which I have not been able to damage  yet.

overall I don't think I would sell the bike unless I am put in a position where I would be able to upgrade to a better/younger Meta.  The bike is just so strong though.

Question : how do I reduce the "internal cable rattle" in the top tube?

The meta I rode was trail-er-park's,am sure he will answer. It seems to be an inherent problem with most threads I've read.

Trailer's meta is built tough with heavy wheels & Tyres. Where as the pascoe has more trail orientated wheels on.

The one thing I didn't mention about the ride was that the pascoe steered really quickly and I found I was picking my route more so than bulldozing my way through the rocks, especially in the forest sections. I think the pascoe is definitely an easier bike to live with for every day riding.

Cheers...it was supposed to be a fork comparison. But ended up as I wrote it because of how transformed the bike itself felt. I think we get caught up in so much bs advertising and forget the real reason we wanna ride....coz we big kids and can't stop laughing or t/t's whislt hammering it down a rocky single track.

As El captain said "

Yep. Wheel size should be the last consideration. Head angle, suspension design, geometry. Tyres, pressure etc. "

If just one person is toying with the idea of buying an enduro/ trail machine, reads this and decides to take the plunge instead of a carbon 100mm 9r. Then bonus especially if it's a 26r that he stole from someone coz there dead....???? lmfao

I think 26ers are gonna become like steel framed bikes or some might say have already all this hype about the bigger wheels is gonna dissipate and the 26er is gonna be the most sought after wheel size again. Like steel frames you just can't get the same handling with the other wheel sizes that you have with 26. How I miss mine now.

I had that exact same conversation with a mate of mine, and said if you hold on to the 26r long enough will be back in fashion and you can get more than you paid for it ????

Taahir,

I too have read of so may dudes pulling their hair out because of some infernal cable rattle that is worse than a creaky headset.

To be honest I have been very fortunate in that this has never been an issue on my Meta  ....or if the real truth be told - Brenton set my bike up, not sure what secret voodoo he uses but he's good ...

Seriously suggest you have a word with BiBi - he da man.

I would've liked to hear what he thought of the pascoe and AM frame geometry how this affected the ride. Do the bikes have similar low BBs and how do they compare when leaned over? Do you think the AM seat post and wheelbase could also be a reason why it was a bit more sluggish in the climbs?

Hoe did you find the rear triangles performance of the AM. Did both bikes have a monarch RT3 out back?

Interesting how similar yet different they are -

Both have 67 deg. HA

Both have 430mm chainstay

Wheelbase on Meta is 1173 vs 1185 on Pascoe ... nothing in it

Both have RS Monarch RT3 fitted

BB a little higher on Pascoe definitely

The fork performance - both 160mm was ... well you read Pikeys' views

The 400g difference in wheelset weight is telling and the additional (informed guess) 2.3 kg of the Meta was the largest real-world differentiator

So cool to play ....

Pushing Pikey to do Meta - Reign session next    :whistling:

yea both have the monarch..I stand under correction but think they also both have the same head angle ? We actually discussed this and to me the meta felt more like a downhill thug whereas the pascoe felt more comfortable and not as aggressive. Maybe that's why the pascoe steers so damn quick and holy k&k its quick. Pascoe has a 50 mm stem and I think trailers meta has a 45 mm on.

What's the offset on the different forks? That would change things quite a bit if they were different.
