Serengeti Classic Road

So you all know what this means? Unless your elite your seeding is now going to be slightly worse. Last year it was a tandem that had the fastest time if I remember correctly. Elites did a longer route so their times didn't count for our seedings. Now they doing the same route so they will obviously set the benchmark.

Not a seeding problem, as timed by Championchip, so no effect on Racetec seeding.

Iv tried but im not so clued up. Help me out here. They sent it to me as an excel file. Otherwise send me your email ad and ill forward it to you.

The excel document they sent isn't ideal for posting on a here as it is just an excel doc with a lot of screenshots and is 7mb.

I tried to plot it on Garmin and came up with this route, it might not be 100% correct but it should give the a general idea.

It looks like they are taking us on a loop before heading out towards Bapsfontein. If I understand there document correctly, we will turn right after the road that Dunblane is in (9th Rd), then do a bit of a loop and make our way back towards Serengeti and past Dunblane again, we then turn left to head towards Bapsfontein, once on Pretoria Rd / R51 we will turn left earlier than before and onto Delmas Rd (R50) and ride along there for quite a few kms and turn left and then it looks the same as last year all the way to the finish.

This is how I understand it but could be wrong.

Ja I agree with you, from what I can understand is the first 40 odd km is a lap and a half around the outside of serengeti and then we branch off and do same sort of route as last year. So first 27 Km is one lap, then next 17 km is the same as the start.

I seriously hope you don't get some people that turn left towards bapsfontein first instead of right and end up with like 20 km less.

Looking forward in anticipation, Climbing not my strongpoint, and have not really raced for a while, so want to see how I handle the climbs.

Can also register today and tomorrow at serengeti.

So, if it is a Championchip timed event, why is it that Racetec lists the race as one of the ones I have entered under "my events" on their website? And does this mean that it will indeed be a "Racetec seeded" event? I wonder if the two companies are at long last working together?

Slim chance of that, a while back Racetec did make a change that allowed their system to read CC chips but CC had a fit and and threatened legal action if they continued.

Does seem odd that it appears under Racetec. Only thing i can think of is that Cycleevents and Racetec have an agreement that all events entered on Cycleevent site are managed by Racetec.

It seems like racetec facilitates the entry process (on behalf of Cycleevents) but Championchip does the actual timing.

But I could be wrong.

Ya, perhaps. Or racetec were originally contracted to time, and the race orginisers flip flopped at the last minute? Probably more likely, given that racetec always used to time the race. Anyway, It will be interesting to see racetec does with the listing after the event tomorrow.

I doubted that the post race-results will be on the racetec site.

Then again I've more faith on Championchip's event timing than racetec.

Agreed, last week they did not pick up my chip going over the mat. Had to send them a link to my Strava page (they could not open the Garmin Gpx file) before they would credit me with a time. Exact same thing happened to my mate. Made for lots of unnecessary admin.

Yes, both of the above are correct.

The results won't appear on RaceTec, only the booking due to the link between CycleEvents and Racetec.

I spoke to the Championchip guys during number collection. The organisers changed timing companies early last week.
