Rouxenator Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Dankie Hahaha dis my eerste een so weet nie hoe vinnig of altans stadig ek is nie.. sal maar updates gee hoe ons vorder..Most of the route has pretty spotty cellular coverage. I have location sharing enabled with my wife and she says my position only updates once I am on Simola.

Vrou love dit want jy share letterlik n website url en sy kan net na dit gaan en dit sal se waar ek is/laaste was met sein. So sy kan gaan shopping doen en seker maak sy is by eindstreep voor ek daar is.

I just figured since it is already there and being used by google and the NSA to track me I might as well tap into it and share it with my family

If the GPS is enabled it will use it occasionally to accurately determine your location. If the GPS is off it will use other methods such as cell triangulation or known wifi beacons. If the GPS is active, such as when you are recording in Strava, it will use the live feed of locations for your position. In other words it uses what is available without causing additional battery drain on your device. Remember that determining you location is half of the equation. To share it or store it on your google account the device needs comms and with events like these cellular coverage is spotty or non existent for the biggest stretch of your journey. I know that when I did Transkaroo or Ceder my location data got old because their is no coverage to update it.
