Hi fellow hubbers,

I am considering buying this bike

http://mandrillapp.com/track/click/30042621/www.thehubsa.co.za?p=eyJzIjoibGJMUUJ0OXBLNTktSlNITlJsTGNCOGJ1aFRRIiwidiI6MSwicCI6IntcInVcIjozMDA0MjYyMSxcInZcIjoxLFwidXJsXCI6XCJodHRwOlxcXC9cXFwvd3d3LnRoZWh1YnNhLmNvLnphXFxcL2ZvcnVtXFxcL2NsYXNzaWZpZWRzXFxcL2FkXFxcLzEyMjIyMi1ndC1tYXJhdGhvbi0yLWZ1bGwteHRcXFwvXCIsXCJpZFwiOlwiYjhhNGNmNzBjZDg5NDAzN2FhMGVjYjQzY2FhZGMxMDdcIixcInVybF9pZHNcIjpbXCIxMDlkYjE4MDFiNDNhNTM4ZTNmOWNiYWQzNTQwYWRjOTJmNzQ5ODEzXCJdfSJ9

The bike is in CT and I am in Gauteng.

I would like to have someone very knowledgeable view the bike on my behalf and report back to me the overall condition and if it is a good buy in their opinion.

I would be more than willing to pay for your petrol.

Please let me know!

Thanks!

Hilarious how the seller went from advertising the bike at R4k, getting tons of interest and what appears to be a firm offer to purchase at the advertised price before turning the sale into an auction...

The way he suddenly tries to make a extra buck kind of rubs me up the wrong way.....

hence the reason why you need minimum post count to use the classifieds..its kinda like quoting for something and the person saying "wow thats cheap" and then you  adjusting your price up

What is this: Selling Voetstoets?

it means that if you read between the lines it is faaaaaked.

bike going for R4k, but needs a 8k service to get it working reliably.

This actually pissed me off.  Spoke to him just after the ad went up, said that I was going to Constantia that evening anyway so could have a look.  He told me that I was the first to make contact so I'd have first shot at it, but he was at work at the moment.  Turned out that he was riding it at the Oak Valley 24hr the next day.  Great I said as I was going to, so could meet him there to have a look at the bike and possibly just take it from there.

Sent him an sms on Saturday morning on my way to Oak Valley to tell him which gazebos we'd be under because I know that cell signal is dodgy there.  He writes back saying that he's had an offer of R6.5k and will reassess the situation on Monday to see who is the highest bidder.

That really got under my skin.

Then yesterday I get an sms from him saying that the bike is still for sale.  I asked if it was for sale at the original R4k or R6.5k?  Got no response.

This just feels so unethical to me.

Unethical or not, unless there is a firm agreement between the parties for purchase at the lower price, the seller can change his mind and sell at whatever price he wants.

It would be completely different if there was an agreement for the sale to go ahead.

If he had made arrangements for someone to view the bike, he should have, at least contacted that person and informed him of the change.

It's the ethics that I have a problem with.  Obviously there was no firm agreement in place, but this just reeks of greed.

I recently sold a dropper to the first guy that contacted me about it.

It took a little patience because the guy was busy with work.

Anyone can understand that. He said he would take it. So I waited a few days.

I had so many buyers lined up and offers for more money that I had to make an excel

document with names, timestamps and method of contact.

Just to make sure of who was really next inline.

A couple extra notes in my pocket won't make me feel better about being a dick

And that's exactly the problem.  I was ready to go through straight away (I was going to the same area anyway), but he heard the dollar signs from others and was swayed.

I firmly believe that anyone can offer whatever they want over the phone, but it's the guy standing there with cash in hand that you take seriously, not the guy who may never pitch.
