Balls to the walls... Burning (as few) matches (as possible)... pretty much the same thing.

Stay as close to the front as possible for the first 30-odd Km can yield the results I'm hoping for. It's the bump just after Otto Volek on/off ramp that I'm hoping to burn as few of those matches as possible.

That little bump is my final hurdle when I'm coming back from a long inland ride (I live basically at the top of the M19 climb). Such an innocuous little thing when you're fresh, but a different story when the legs are gone. The Man With The Hammer likes to wait for me at the top of that little bump.

Any plans to ride back home after the ride?

I'm staying in New Germany with family, and it's always nice to ride home afterwards (did it twice after the Amashova).

Unfortunately I can't - the missus is flying back from JHB on Sunday so I've got to drive to the airport straight from the race.

Tom, what is the best way to get back to Ballito after the race, with the M4 closed. Up Umgeni and onto the N2 ?

The problem is that the 100k race goes through the Umgeni/N2 intersection. There might still be road closures that side if you finish early. Nevertheless, I'm sure Umgeni rd will be pretty congested.

I'd park Ushaka side and ride to the start from there. Then ride back to the car afterwards, and from there you can get out by going straight through the city and onto the N3. At spaghetti junction get onto the N2 north.

Happily I'm a member of DUC so I'll be parking there and riding to the start (the club is next to Ushaka). I'll have my boardies and snorkelling kit in the car, so a lekker swim along vetchies reef as a warm-down, and a meal at the clubhouse before I have to get onto the road again :).

I have not entered but considering doing the 105km as I am going to be in durban for a family weekend. Is this a relatively easy race with just the climb up the M7 being the most difficult or are there some sneaky bumps later on?

Easy peasy lemon squeezy

Scott, Tombeej, CrankShaft. I think you guys have convinced me to enter. Will drive straight to the expo when I arrive in Durban on Saturday. I have put in some decent training this month [500km] and think this is the fittest i've been since my school days so is probably the best time to try it out and push myself further.

First time I'm doing this race. Entered in Vets 40-44.

Will be wearing Cape Town Giants jersey. Where's my pic...
