My elbow got hit by a passing car's side mirror awhile ago.

Luckily for me I "sensed" the impact and tightened my grip. The car lost its side mirror but the driver did not even slow down or stop  to check if I was okay.

Maybe we should have those blades fitted to our hubs like the chariots used to do.

Bet you he planned it like that and wanted to JUST go past you but bacause he hit you, he did not want to stop

I wish they would see us as HUMANS not objects

Let me just explain this.

This nurse passed me. This is in the yellow lane. The lane next to yellow turns left and goes on straight.

She drove in the yellow line, honked at me to get out of her way (still in the yellow lane) then she passed me on the right and proceeded down the yellow lane.

Nd she got very angry when I took the photo and tried to reverse her car into me.

PLEASE report this to PPA and relevant authorities.... and le'ts see if the 1meter rule does anything.

I stongly support the PPA stay wider of the rider ... but as anything nothing will change UNLESS prosecution follows.

If they get enforced only then will cars "SEE" us!

I am considering putting sharps pins on the ends of my handlebars, then if they come to close their car gets damaged, maybe they will learn?

Just a light friendly tap with your bomb.... on the window.....

PS - get ready to hop the pavement..... :)

Remember was cycling with Bruce Reyneke when we encountered one of these idiots and the usual arguments started . Bruce shut hom up when he said " I just hope for your sake when one of your kids ride one day that all the idiots like you are gone "

This is great, and will definitely plant a seed in ANYONE'S mind. Should get a bumper sticker saying something like that. When I get to a crossing I move as if I am in a car, and make sure I am polite and visible. Great time to work on your 0-30km/h.

See what Joel Stransky says about safe cycling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAHNNS0jzTs

I wonder how many motorists would get their license if they were to take the test again now.

But unfortunately if you listen to it and hate cyclist you will ONLY hear the part where he says some cyclist ride like clowns, and if you are a cyclist you only hear the parts about stupid motorist.

Very diplomatic though

Ive been cycling for just over 20 years.... i know this will never change! The PPA thing is helping for sure (as i do see some cars pass wider) but many cars get added to the road every day! so well become less and they more.

Same thing happened to me. Was going up chappies from Hout bay side and i was as far left as possible. The guy had both lanes to safely pass me, yet he passes so close that i feel the side of the car brush me and the mirror hit me. The guy looked in his rear view mirror and carried on driving like nothing happened. At first i carried on cycling and thought nothing of it but the more I thought about it, the more pissed off I got. Ended up catching him at the boom and giving him piece of my mind.

So yesterday morning riding through St James I get passed by one of the pane glass transporting bakkie like things. Immediately behind the bakkie in its slip stream are about 15 Cyclelab and Alfa Body works kitted out riders all slipping the bakkies at about 50km/hr on a narrow stretch of road.

to make matters worse these guys nearly took my group out and we were single file on the left.

So if you clowns are reading this and feeling a little agitated at being called clowns, I do know who some of you are so just hear this. Your behaviour was f***ing uncool and dangerous. You are poor examples to the young kids who were riding with you looking for guidance and mentorship.

We have drawn a line in the sand on cyclist safety. Get on the right side of it!

one of our members was almost taken out by the back of a Pennypinchers truck on Saturday morning. i will no doubt be filing a letter of complaint to the montague branch of Penny Pinchers on monday morning. riding in the middle of the road when in slow moving traffic looks like a more safer option than keeping left when the  hard shoulder dissapears.

Wont help because they believe you must stop for them to turn. and proceed on our way.

hence peole need to be prosecuted, stripped of their driving licenses and they can only retake it after scoring 100% on the K53 test.

The test needs to b revised to include an interview and psychometric profile. Some people are just callous and probably treat their housekeeper and staff the same way they treat other road users. Yet they look respectable and civilised.

There are more of these than most would care to admit.
