Racetec bike mount

During last service to my machine the bike mount for the Rectec chip snapped and thus I am in need of a new one.

Been to Cycle events office in Fourways CycleLab store who referred me back to Racetec. I know they are always at the events they time and am sure I can get a new one there but I do not really like fiddling around too much before the start and absolutely hate the rattling of the chip on the mount, which is why I secure mine with a cable tie, which would mean more fiddling before the start.

Have been told by quite a few guys that they simply secure the chip to their fork with cable ties BUT Racetec specifically says this should not be done so not too keen on that.

Based on above would prefer to get my hands on a new mount ahead of the next event and sort things out in the comfort of my house without stress before the next race. Any ideas where I can get one / will Racetec mail one?

Cable tie to your fork, thread it through the Velcro strap on your shoe or even pop it into your sock. It will all work just as well.

But to be clear: that is not what Racetec recommends and I would rather get another mount.

So any ideas where I can get one other than at events?

My Racetec mount snapped in half in last years 94.7 and I lost my chip. I will never use those mounts again, and will only cable tie directly to my fork

The racetec mounts are useless. I actually feel it adds unnecessary "noise" to the front fork.

As suggested, mount it on your fork, or onto your shoe. I don't know of anyone that's ever had an issue with the shoe/fort mount..

Well of you go that route then you'll be annoyed and / or buying a new one pretty soon. :)

Annoyed because that mounting bit of plastic rattles more than a anything I've ever heard when you're happily belting along. So you need to shove a decent bit of paper in to firm it up and get the din down to a mildly annoying noise.

Getting a new chip because that thing will break faster than the clutch of a landie of Fraser island with a pom behind the wheel.

Honestly, there is a reason why most people have the cable tied to the bottom of the fork or on their shoe. Mine is on my fork and has been after the 3rd race with it, it's never missed a beep and the only annoying thing now is i have to cut it off once a year to get into the Argus Expo.

A buddy of mine rides with it in his saddle pouch thing and he's never been missed by the timing mats.

They say you should not use cable ties because they want to sell you a mount.

But if you really want to get a mount you can get one on race day or at registration the day before the race.

To loosen your quick release will take seconds and I really cant see what the problem is. It will literally take 2 min max to fit and you can still go for a test ride to test everything. The racetec guys are set up hours before every race so just go there early.

You can also use some insulation tape to secure to your clip to stop the rattle.

I will not use those mounts, as the plastic tends to stretch over time and breaks around the QR. Last thing I want is a loose front wheel. Cable tie to the fork or rear stay or velcro strap around your ankle, or if your shoe has a velcro strap, through one of these.

My plastic mount broke off aswell. I went to a material shop and bought some velcro. Cut it to the width of the gap through the chip. Mine is mounted around the fork and i can easily remove it and it does not move around while i cycle.
