Come now guys - lets get this back on track.

Any real news on the fire pls

It is difficult to see since there are clouds on the mountain tops but above the Lourensford mountains there is smoke and in this wind the fire will not be contained.

AFIS doesn't show any more info than what I posted earlier this morning and I'm not inclined to trust social media at this point.

Last update from VWS was 300ha burnt last night and still battling this morning, will keep an eye on their tweets etc and see if anything new pops up, don't really want do bother them with phone calls to try get updates, they are surely inundated...

Bennet Nel: Latest from jonkers. The gates may be closed for a week. The fire is not burning out of control at this stage. Just hope the wind stays down !! Firehut safe still. Fire slowly creeping around at the top of swartbos kloof. Most crew busy on the left hand side under the peaks. I have no visual.
News crews all in here now

Cape Town - The Cape Winelands Fire Department says 150 firefighters have been deployed to the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve to battle the blaze currently threatening the area, EWN reported on Tuesday.

- Are you there? Send us your eyewitness accounts and photos.

Firefighters on the ground are currently battling the blaze, which first flared up on Monday afternoon, to ensure the fire does not spread over the Helderberg mountains.

“At this point, the aim is to keep the fire from moving over the mountain to the Helderberg basin,” Cape Nature spokesperson Justin Lawrence told News24.

“At the moment the fire is still in the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve and parts of the Cape Pine area.”

Lawrence said that about 700 hectares of vegetation has been destroyed since Monday afternoon.

Three volunteer crews from Working on Fire are currently dispatched to the area, along with one crew from Cape Nature, and crews from the Volunteer Wildfire services.

I got now my membership from Tygerberg - only need to get cleats for my crocs to ride "agter die boerewors gordyn!" :whistling:

Its is really fun, awesome vibe/food/wine... Riding in the dark (with a light) is something totally different as well. Really need to trust your knowledge of the trail and just go with it....

Edit: oh, Meerendal also do night rides now on Tuesdays.

and there is also a Hooggekraal nightride on Tuesday 17 March.

Day permit trails are at Hooggekraal, Contermanskloof, Bloemendal (south of the road) and Meerendal. Sadly we cannot get an "All Trail" permit up and running due to one of the land owners wanting to stay independant.

Noted.  Yes you are right the last thing the guys want is untrained persons in the way when it comes to attacking the major fires.... But trust me I have been involved in many fires and all the help you can get is appreciated. Getting gear and drinks out to the guys, or by extinguishing smaller flames on the outskirts etc...

Its much better to Volunteer and get some basic training for future fires.

Obviously don't get yourself into a situation where you can get injured, but no-one will show you away if you ask to help.
