awesome race, made sure I was in the front of the group around the Duduza hill section.

Avoided a crash at the start and another about 5 km before the finish.

Managed 23rd place overall with a time of 2:18 12 seconds behind the winners.

In the last 5 km I tried to reach the front of the group, going at 400 to 500 watts and a HR of 195 it was impossible, need to move up quicker next time

Well done. Stunning result!

I counted four crashes in DL. The first was just after Carnival City on the R23. Four of us worked hard for about 5km to get back onto the main bunch, after getting caught up in the aftermath. The worst was definitely the last one at 75km. Some guys hit the deck very hard. I lost contact with the group heading up Rondebult Road in Parkdene. Soloed home for 2h42ish. One of my favourite events.

Hey I was one of those guys working hard to get back after the R23 crash. 3 Giants and a Raleigh I think. I suffered a bit later on because of that, dropped back on the climbs, formed a group with about 4 guys and the hand cycle guy. I saw the major crash, dropped off again and soloed home in 2:53. I was on target for a 2:45 but legs, traffic and slow riders hampered my last 15 km. Mostly legs though

Had a good race in BL, tried to stay in the front 5-10 guys. Took a turn in front just before the 'hill' which I shouldn't have, then got caught out in a split. Had to burn serious matches to catch them again. The guys didn't really want to work together.

It was a bit of a mess in the end with the shorter distance riders and even some cars getting in the way, luckily I didn't see or hear any crashes. Finished with the bunch in 2:34, a minute faster than in 2013 when I finished with AL.

I think it's because of the VC break of two being in front of the VBs, and the commissaire forcing a gap. That's also why the one car kept riding in the middle of the VB bunch.

They were in front for a bit, and then one of them punctured, and they regrouped. Then they neutralised the VBs.

The early editions of the ride were flatter going out east parallel to the R21 and involving the Allandale rd if i remember correctly.

Started in B : thought I was ready today... yea right (spat out on that hill like i was reversing)... seriously need to lose another 10 kgs . 10 kilometer solo TT saw all my matches burnout at once. Then it was just to hang onto everyone and anyone merciful enough to tow me along. C passed me and i barely hung onto the back of D ... No drama's so kinda pleased with a 2h53

Great seing all you nutters again today, really adds value to my day

I have done the Emperors Palace many times and had a fantastic ride's from start to finish.

This time I can only say the middle was good.

Very poor starting organisation as well as the end.

From the onset you could see problems were evident when goody bags were not pre-prepared at Cycle Lab leading to very long lines waiting nearly and hour.

We were supposed to start in HL at 07:17 so left at 06:05 from Linksfield and took the Airport offramp at 06:20.  We only got into the parking at 07:40 due to the very poor organisation to get into Emperors Palace. No traffic control at all by the start!

We eventually started with DM group which did not have option for long ride as all riders were being turned around at the 26km mark.

I must say that marshals and traffic control on route was amazing.

The riders all had a fantastic ride with weather conditions being perfect.

At the end of the ride also disappointment as only one person was left there to hand out medals so very hard task for the old lady.

So those who did not even want medals had congestion to deal with.

I am not sure who changed protocol and took it upon themselves to cause such a DUFF UP!

If this is the case organisers are making this ride unattractive  for the future.

Get back to basics, eat your pride and allow those who know what they are doing to do what they do best!

I was also in B group today. What top were you wearing? I was in the bright green sabie top driving the pace as much as possible (including on the "hill")

Good job! I was in the Cresta shirt. Glad you survived the crashes.
