Seemingly they went from about 3500 entries to over 6000

That would be for both road race distances as well as the MTB event on the Saturday.

Sure, just quoting what the announcer said at the start..  I see racetec shows finishers (with chips) on the Long up from 1964 to 2407.  Still a decent 23% increase which would be enough to make parking / traffic significantly worse than last yr.

Hopefully lessons learnt and solutions will be put in place for the next one, cos its a great event otherwise.

It's never nice to hear about, let alone see, cyclists involved in serious accidents and the subsequent injuries. All the best to this cyclist and his family. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Do you know if the organisers have said anything or visited/contacted his family?

I do not know but can ask if you need the info.

I personally don't need to know - but it's good to know if the organisers care about the welfare of the (hospitalised) riders that participated in their event.

Update of fallen rider: -

16 April - transferred to a hospital nearer his home. Operation booked for the next day at 11:00 if neuro surgeon is satisfied that the head injury is under control and he is good for anesthetics. Orthopedic surgeon gave x - rays one look and said this collar bone will never heal without an operation and shoulder bone also broken. It was never picked up at other hospital! ! He was placed in isolation as he came from another hospital. Weird!

17 April - Operation was not done today. Numbness on left side of face. Neuro surgeon wanted another CT scan. Now operation is booked for 8:00 next day.

18 April - Operated on today. Titanium plate and seven screws later. Shoulder and collar bone fixed. Left side of face still numb and Facial specialist will visit him later. Still in pain but now on the road to recovery.

20 April - Nine days in two hospitals. Finally going home. On the road to recovery. Nerve in middle ear damaged and will take time to heal, hence the numbness in his face. It was bad but it could have been worse! Every day we just realise how fragile the human body is! And how precious life is!
