and the Spider/Ring is the same price as the cheaper Stages offerings

Stages....R12k?

Spider....$1100?

mmmmmmmmm

heheheh..

Also.  Chainrings I have to replace every 25000km.  Let's say 2 years.

Stages don't.

I personally think it is a different market all together.

Why did PT make it part of the chainrings?  Does not add up for me......you are looking at "Tru ruf tuf Saffa Mountain bikers that LOVE to ride in the mud and grind dust and wash their bike 2 times a year."

Chainrings is a bit of a raplace-once-a-month type of thing if I have a look at Sani/Sabie/Epic riders.....

Yes?  No?

The chainrings are replaceable just like any other ring...it is the spider you are buying...but you knew that...Listen I'm done answering Trolls do your homework before slating a new product and nay saying everything about it...

That spider moves inboard quite a bit.  Is this BB86 / BB386 compatible?

130bcd would be nice to avoid having to change cranks.

They do however make provision for 53/39 chainrings, so I gues this is a way to satisfy the bulk of the market.

+1 on anticipated cost.?

Bulk of the market means Shimano, means 4-bolt 110 BCD.

Powertap also needs to look at the TT market, because powertap hubs don't work in discs[1].  That means they should also look at 54 and 56 tooth rings.

[1] disc wheel covers do work.

If the rings are replaceable without shipping to the factory for recalibration, and the spider is small enough so it works on most bikes, I think they have large potential market.

For me the challenge with power meters is how to have a training aid that covers different bike types and equipment ???

Pedal idea is good, but they do take a hammering on a mtb. Not sure the damage that could cause.

Well it looks like Stages for me...I'm fussy about what pedals I use and I ride a compact 50/34 which I don't think the new PT crank unit caters for.

Do Stages have a Patent on their crank arm unit, just wondering why PT don't do something like that?

Would this do you?

The chainrings are user replaceable - unless you change them with a hammer and chisel :whistling: they won't need recalibration. Lik you say they have developed this system with most bikes in mind I'm sure they would have done a market survey to see what is the most common crank used...and as I have been informed - they will be releasing the newer Shimano 4 bolt standard in the next while...

it is not chinrings but merely a spider of some sort if I liik correctly. much like an SRM power ring on a sram crank. all this does is rotate your rings so that the bolt now sits inbetween the spider arms.

Am I looking at this right?

I use 50/36 and prefer it as the jump is not as high as 50/34 Suppose you climb more where you stay than us here in SA

I bought my first compact cranks way back in +/- 2004 / 2005 and they were only available in the 50/34 then. I'm quite happy with them so I ordered the same for my Tri bike last year albeit now in 11 speed.

I like to spin up steep climbs and the 34 with a 11/25 or 11/23 is works well for me.

That is 100% correct, the spider will make up the bulk of the cost of the system, as far as we can tell the rings will be propriety but we will see once we get our grubby paws on some.

The cost of the C1 system will be similar to a Dura Ace Stages arm BUT it will offer L/R balance etc to with in 1.5% accuracy.

In terms of availability we are looking at around May to have some of these new systems landed in S.A and final pricing can only be confirmed then as this Rand of ours doesn't know if its coming or going.
