Was thinking the exact same thing.

Take the race away from the club......almost double the price and off you go.......

R290 for the Emperrors this year.......

HAHHAHAHAHAH.

ASG is killing road cycling at a pretty impressive pace....

Doesnt look like it, if you look at the amount of entries at the races..

Was seriously considering doing this next year, but will wait to see what happens first

And that is the sad part of it all.  As long as people are willing to pay a certain amount, prices will go up every year.  VRAAG EN AANBOD

jip......

SAFFAS are SUCKERS for punishment......they LOVE to compete and show off times and racing.

So the races will always be popular.

The question is....if the entry fee was like a normal running marathon's....how many entrants would there have been then?

Nail Meet Head!!

A common excuse i hear is that water tables etc are more spread out in a cycle race. My rebuttal however is that a running event even though the distances are shorter, generally have more water points than a cycle event.

Greed will kill everything off eventually.

Crumbs...

...besides the Timing, there was not much else I could find fault with the 2015 Tour..!

Boland does NOT exist as a province anymore - it is now Cape Winelands...!!!

Tour of Good Hope is a good (alternative) choice of name...

We cannot let Individuals try and "claim" ownership of a Stage Race..??

Especially Individuals who are in it for their own gain, put sponsorship money in their own pockets, and use Social Media as a means of criticism, extortion and personal vendettas...???

For crying out loud, wake up and see the Crooks without a Conscience for who they really are...!!!

They are not in it for the long-term benefit of the sport, they are in it for the short-term benefit of themselves.

I know what I'm talking about, I know the history.

Let the Professionals take over, not the Palookas.

So you are saying the loads of organisers bitching about ASG poaching their races are all "crooks without a conscience"?

Hehehehe......careful just shooting from the hip.

This is NOT the first time ASG "takes over ownership" of a race.

And I suspect it won't be the last.....

Got to love politics in cycling......

At the risk of repeating myself

BOLAND is not a province anymore...

...CAPE WINELANDS is the new province...

...so why lay claim to "Tour de Boland", OR even call a race "Tour de Boland" anymore???

Whether ASG "poaches" events is up for debate, and also a matter of personal opinion...

,,,point is, who is going to:

1. Grow an event

2. Add value to an event

3. Manage an event ethically, professionally, for the long-term benefit of cycling?

Food for thought...

Does not matter which way you look at it, we still need to exclude the organisers/individuals who are CWAC

.

Help me out here, why can't individuals claim ownership and make money out of a race? Is that a special privilege for ASG only or are they doing it for charity?

Very hard for the average Joe out there to make sense of the situation with all the vague accusations and conflicting statements flying out there.

nitpicking, but Boland was never an actual province, it's still a region. Good hope is not a province either.

interestingly both Boland Bank and Goodhope Bank got absorbed into ABSA (i could be off target there)

What does it matter if Boland exists as a province or not?

So the guys who has been running the Tour de Boland for years before ASG should just back off? To hell with that.

As for people in it for themselves.... the people who started the Tour de Boland, have been involved with cycling for decades, at a point where there were little or no money in it, and even put in their own money to stage some of the earlier events. The event showed growth every year, even before ASG became involved. I feel that if someone builds up an event to a point where they can make money out of it, and still pay all the bills associated with it, good for them.

ASG has a history of claiming events for themselves. So, portraying themselves as the Virgin Mary is hugely hypocritical

As for ASG's claim that they only learned about their removal on twitter/facebook - they're lying.  Way before that happened they were asked for a meeting, and has yet to respond.  As for social media - ASG still holds the fb group hostage.

Why not, that Vermaak guy is doing a good job with that red bank mtb race thing he does every march. Who actually 'owns' the Tour de boland - is it boland cycling union or Carinus?

I see you feel strongly about this one Franschhoek Cycles......interesting.

Having a look at events up in Gauteng, most of the road events are declining in numbers.....

Sadly road cycling is just getting too expensive to compete in these days and most clubbies around me will rather go ride their Sunday easy ride before they pay R300 to go ride in Jhb.....

I'll take an example.

I have done the Emperors race MANY times.

And if I did not see that ASG was now the organisers of the event and not the old guys anymore, I would not have known.  No difference.  No value add.

Same goes for Telkom Satelite challenge and Jock.

What I did notice was the above-inflation increase in entry price.

Management of an event.......mmmm....I think ASG does a good job of this....but so did the previous owners.

Like the saying goes....I have no horse in this race but for me personally I only see declining numbers and increased entry fees. But that is on a personal level.

As for Boland not being a province........so what?  Bulls are not blue and yet they are called the Blue bulls?

It is part of heritage.  Part of history.  You can either talk it away or except it?  I don't really care about a name.  I just want a lekker race and not break the bank while doing what I love.  ^_^
