Wahoo Kickr

I have been extremely impressed with my KickR - that said I have no reference point as it is my first indoor trainer. The positive thing is that after 2 months I still use the bloody thing. That either means I am scared of my wife's reaction if I stop using it, or it is better than those cheap Giant ones.

On the app side, you can use Wahoo Fitness on your phone to control the settings, running it in ECG (I think?) mode, which regulates the power - awesome if you ask me.

I personally run it together with Sufferfest and TrainerRoad - both of these tools are incredibly useful in motivating you and getting the most out of my limited training time.

It is a big financial outlay, especially considering the additional 3k for Sufferfest and TrainerRoad, but I definitely believe it is worth it...and as we get closer to Winter, I believe I made the right choice!

Anybody know where I can get a mount for my Ipad to attach it to the handlebars when using the Kickr? Sorry to move away from the topic, I also want to get one but that is something I would want with it.

What are you using to run the programs, a computer or an ipad?

There is only the model I know of that connects to any dropout .No rear wheel is used.I am using an ipad with wifi ,but if the streaming is slow ,the kinomap videos are sketchy. The best would be a direct cable to pc and or integrated TV

Versatility wise, the kickr, kicks butt  :whistling: , its the best no arguing that...due to BLE and Ant+ compatibility. The tacx is probably the worst...you locked into TTS and that is it. The powerbeam is second to the kickr I agree, because of this, but is it worth the extra money. For me it wasn't, might be different for other. Wrt the power rating, I can guarantee you will never run out of brake so to speak, have gone through a big range with it and I don't think us amateurs even take it to its limits...its brake delivery is also very very smooth and realistic meaning it won't feel like you climbing stairs but rather a hill...

PS shop around on the powerbeam, you might be able to pick up a good deal, but go for the BLE version if you do.

Only supplier is bicycle power as far as i know?

I am currently using my desktop at home, although I do have one of those ipad sticks.

I suspect the ipad would work well with the Wahoo Fitness app and TrainerRoad, but less well with the Sufferfest videos.

on the website it shows the model where you take your wheel off.

Which model are you guys on about that requires a "training" wheel ?

Sorry Slowbee, was a bit off topic there. That was a reference to other trainers like the Cycleops Powerbeam and the Tacx systems. The Kickr is only available in the "direct mount" version as you described, and my reference was that if you want to compare prices properly you should include a "training wheel" in your budget for the other systems.

and don't forget cassette for that training wheel. Kickr comes with a cassette at initial purchase if I understand the sales pitch correctly

I can confirm that the KickR does come with a cassette.

I guess that if you change from a road bike to a MTB, you need to change the cassette on the wahoo???

I guess it would depend on the gears you run. I run Shimano on both my bikes and don't see the need to change the cassette.

The KickR can automatically change the resistance, so you actually don't need to change gears - I don't shift for example. I let the app run the resistance. I just select the best ratio to extend the life of the components.

I must mention that I hate riding my MTB on the indoor trainer. I have a dual-sus and it would probably feel better if you had a hardtail. My recommendation would be to use the road bike for indoor sessions. Keep the fat-tyres outside.

I see on the website it is not compatible with the sram xx1 cassette, does anyone know if there is a way to get it to work i.e. use another 11 speed cassette or any other alternative.
