What do you do if that hanger snaps off the On One?

Steel frames - will take a lot to snap off. If it bends just bend it back.

At the price - you can just get another frame  ;) .

Seriously though - The alu bolt on ones are designed to snap to preserve the RD (thats the idea any way). Most of the time in a bang that big the RD is a little buggered anyway.

On the steel On-One's the RD will take more of the brunt. If the hanger does bend, you can just bend it back (unless it's really bad).

BTW - I slapped a bigger fork on my old hardtail. It did all those things I listed as reasons for not doing it in the first place. But dammit, it was FUN!

Haha, I did the same. The otb's were worth the madness in the end. Great fun...for a short while

Cotic BFe is another great option to look at. Already relatively cheap and completely bombproof.

Find the cotics a little expensive in comparison to other brands..

If you can get a nice 2nd hand frame at a deal then yes.

Jamis Komodo. Long, low and capable of running a 150mm fork.

Upgraded to full Saint drivetrain and Hope brakes. KS Lev dropper.

Perfect toy.

It will first bend, being steel and all ... if it does snap off you ask a metal working shop to cut you a new der out of steel plate and weld it back onto the frame.

My first "long travel HT" and SS build ... a steel Giant frame designed around a rigid fork, but running a 140mm Fox Float, was flipping fun
