So who uses road biking to improve their MTB XC fitness?

I do. with my secret socks, long fingered gloves, helmet peak and all the other trappings that annoy the purists. I have a blast on the road bike and it really helps with MTB.

Hell no. Trail run + MTB. Much better at long climbs since taken up running.

I am already dressed in my gym clothes and was planning to start my winter running programme during lunch break today - thanks for the extra motivation (my climbing needs all the help it can get!)

I find riding on the road helps with endurance for MTB but not strength ie rocky technical climbs.

I find that if a MTB a lot then I get stronger on the MTB but then when I hop on the road bike I feel like I lost ground on the roadie. So that is why I constantly mix it up. I would still like a Sub 3 CTCT (the full distance one) so I'm trying to not neglect my road bike through winter when there are so many MTB races.

I ride an old Scott 8spd roadie for training rides and the benefit is that I have to crank on the power whereas in MTB I have so much bail out gears to my disposable which I tend to use when the going gets tough.

I can definitely stay in threshold zone longer now

So you say riding the mtb makes you strong on the mtb and riding road makes you strong on the road, got it. [emoji12]

I wouldn't mind road cycling so much if it was more like a roller derby where you try to moer each other off your bikes. It would make it a way more entertaining spectator sport.

Isn't bike polo close to that?
