Seems like the breakaway riders are going to be the deciding factor in the fantasy competition

Why do they get so many points?

Yes I'm whining because my team is not getting in the break

To answer the why so many points... high risk = reward.

Type in "risk" in the search bar - you'll see 5 posts about it.

Haha, yes of course  precarious is a word that springs to mind

A lot can happen today and tomorrow.

Who would have thought - last year the number of "big names" didn't feature this much in the breaks. If it went like last year, the table would be completely different.

In cycling and TDF a breakaway is allowed to be a breakaway or win because they pose no threat and is not (imo) a high risk situation.

The green jersey wearer would be a good example of a high risk situation.

Just think the points your are awarding are to much for riders who are being "allowed" to finish in front of the leaders

Anyway, something to think about and as they say...those are the rules

Point taken - and comments about the points system is always welcome.

Pinot, Bardet, Uran, Talansky, Rodriguez, Hesjedal and Rolland - all potential top 10 finishers but a bad first week puts them in a position to contend for the breakaways. Under different circumstances, these guys might be getting similar points to Froome, Quintana, Nibali, Contador, van Garderen and Valverde.

High risk is picking Pauwels, Jungles, Geschke, Bakelants, Cherel, Yates, de Gendt, Meintjes and hoping they do something, which they have done. Under normal conditions, there guys would be getting average points.

Low risk, but an obvious choice for an allrounder and the chance of plenty points are Sagan, and Kwiatkowski.

Michael Matthews - big potential that ended on the stage 3 crash. Had he not crashed, what would he have done.

You guys think about this too much

I just chose riders who either have a chance of winning (e.g.. Froome) or who I like (e.g. Teklehaimanot )  ^_^  - I am in 11th spot with a man down

Just as a by the way, something unexpected has occurred in this competition:

Serge Pauwels has been in 4 successful breakaways (finished ahead of the peleton), out of 6 total breakaways, which is more than any other rider.

So Serge has earned himself 10150 (2000 + 3000 + 4000 + 1150) extra points alone, which are not reflected in the scores in the leaderboard so far.

One person has chosen Serge in their team, that is: Immink's team. In fact he chose the whole MTN-Qhubeka team, the only person to do so.

Taking into account these multiple (successful and not) breakaway scores to the totals for all teams, moves him into the top 10. Obviously, if Serge is in one more breakaway that stays away (to bag the KOM jersey, for instance), Immink will run away with this competition

that's one person picked him in the first week. someone else might have drafted him in?

Anyone that thinks Nibali was a poor sport?

Doesn't matter, he got you 1000 break away win points - the only person in a break that stayed away.

118 people have chosen Purito (Rodriguez) in their team, and he currently is the KOM category leader. Will he be defending his lead today, or will one of the following guys be standing on the podium tonight?

A maximum score of 60 points if one riders summit each of the climbs first.

Well done to SportsWorld - attacked while Afrique de Jour was looking over his shoulder, or was that a stone in his brake caliper  :whistling:
