WTB Wolverine 2.3 tires - any good

WTB tyres are AWESOME.

I run 29er wolverine 2.2 on the rear and 2.3 Weirwolf on the front of my spez camber.

Fast AND grippy.  Perfect for Gauteng conditions - hardpack, sand, loose gravel, even softer soil.  However, they don't like mud/wet much - I have found that they don't clear mud very well.

The nicest thing about these tyres is how progressive they are - unless you're a tool (like me), you always know how close you are to the limits of grip.

BTW, they are an absolute pain to fit to standard roval rims on the camber - I've heard that it's easier when you have proper tubeless rims.

BAHAHAHA.. You are sooo right.

They didn't have stock so I settled for 2 ardent race, 2.2 ( back and front)

Opponions? I think the ardent race are pretty decent, would have liked a 2.3 but 2.2 is ok

Ardent Race is an excellent choice. Really suited to aggressive XC / light trail riding. I run a 2.0 on the rear for races.

I do love different opinions. I love the Wolverine.... As a front tyre. Add a Nineline to the rear and you have a super fast rolling combo that's perfect for xcm and dryer jhb conditions. Maybe not so good for roots and mud though.

WTB tyres seal really nicely. Most with a floorpump. Winner winner.

That they do, but they're also a proper pig to get on to some rims, Stans being the worst I've found so far.

I am completely sold on these tyres. have been running a weirwolf front (second one) since december, and I love

I also have a WTB trailboss on the back, and although this ideally needs to be a front tyre, i have found the added grip on the rear when doing climbs is more beneficial.

I can echo some of the statements above, rubbish in the mud (but other than riding full wet tyres) most tyres suck at mud.

Surprisingly grippy, in the loose a wee bit sketchy, but if you realise their limits and adjust accordingly they will treat you fine.

Agreed. Although, once again, I run it on the front (with an Ikon on the back).

Sani2c was a winner with an Ardent Race on the front and a WTB Nineline on the rear. Fast rolling with enough grip up front to have some fun.

My favourite combos (bear in mind I'm an XCM and XCO racer):

Ardent Race / Ikon

Wolverine / Nineline

Xking / Raceking

Love 'em. Run the classic Bronson / Wolverine combo and can't say enough good things esp on a wide rim.

Roshambo was selling them at a great price the other day up in GP.

I had Wolverines on my Trance (F+R) and my only gripe is that on a narrow rim, they roll off the rim when pushed too hard. I discovered this when my Front burped and threw me hard on the floor.

29r Hans dampf front purgatory back. Had the mount graham on the back brilliant rolling tyre but wears out quick and grip is a little sketchy on hard climbs.

26r mountain kings and have no worries at all with them. But will go Bronson and or vigilante,,wolverine when finished. Depending on Availability .

Does the Ikon not have a higher volume than the Ardent Race? Will annoy me to the nth degree if my rear tyre is "fatter" than the front.

Tough call....they're both 2.20 but the Ardent Race looks bigger - probably because it has more "shoulder" knobblies whereas the the Ikon is more rounded.

Visually the Ardent Race looks bigger...

Good to know. I've been pondering an all Maxxis setup and have been considering the Ikon for the rear.

Would love to mount them on some nice wide rims.

Anyone running WTB on ZTR rims?

Yes, Vigilantes on Crest, on my 650b hardtail, running around 27 psi (sorry, old numbers) so far I like these a lot. I am going to try a Wolverine on the back, see what that combo is like.

And yes, a buggar to seat the tyres, I managed to damage my rim tape on both!

Ultimately I would like some wider rims though!

I agree with your sentiments on the mount grahams but I found them to be rubbish in the wet. A muddy ride at Jonkershoek last year resulted in them finding there way into the bin.
