Bib suggestions

Hey guys, did Trans Karoo and 100miler today in Craft bib; really have no issue with it....except when I get past 100km. The chamois (should I call it wings??) runs down quite far; as such the bottom edge is right in the fold under my "cheeks". On shorter rides no issue, but on these where you cranking through tens of thousands of peddle strokes the faintest movement on the same spot has rather unsavoury results.

I had full scabs on both both sides the size of my palm after trans and in for another few days of dreading sitting, now.

1: the bibs are pretty tight fitting so they dont move around

2: used bum cream on both occasions, even more so today

3: checked today it is definitely the bottom edge of the chamois that is right on the spot

Do you guys know of a brand that positions there chamois differently? the one I used for Transbaviaans was totaled in a fall and made in Italy, so no dice to get those again.

bibs are all different with the way they fit each individual

the more expensive ones are made of superior materials and usually have more panels to mould better to your individual shape

the higher end ones have far superior pads that are bigger /smaller flat lock seams etc also superior leg grippers etc

not knocking craft but maybe you need to get a serious pair of bibs if you going to do serious distance riding they will fit better work better and last longer so the extra money will be worthwhile

try northwave or castelli , bontrager etc see how they fit you

all the top brands make different styles with different types of chamois and different cuts

another thing you might try is veet :w00t:

nothing rubs you raw like a bit of hair on a contact spot

you need to find one that suits your shape now that you know where the problem areas are so to speak :whistling:

Thanks guys, like i said on the mid distances the craft is fine. Just scared dishing out 2 odd grand for assos (i have the shorts though, but orefer bib for these long events) and having the same result.

Who stocks castelli and NW?

If your tall try out Vermarc. Long cut sits just above the knee. Very good for long distance. Heard peeps using these bibs for DC. Also keep your legs warm on chilly mornings and cost under 2K. bicyclegear.co.za

I've ridden in all the major brands of bibs and lately have been riding Vermarc bibs. I have their top end pair, think the model is the Vermarc PRR. Half the price of assos and worn by many pro teams. I've also got their 'mid level' bib which is really great value for the quality. They are both really comfortable and fit just right, not too tight or loose. The elastic hasn't stretched either after many washes and rides. Maybe it's worth looking into them - they're very under rated and overlooked by many cyclists in South Africa...

I am doing the TransBaviaans 22nd Aug, the second weekend and I definately have to get a decent bib.

I find as a big guy that most brands just don't have enough padding. I use indola bibs. Cheap as chips and the comfiest for me. My riding partner who is 30kgs lighter now rides in them as well.

At the price they are worth a try.

Vermarc Relax. Not toooo pricey (not cheap)

Did the usual thorough review checking and they seemed great overall.

Can ride and run (so so) in them.

Never needed cream since (<100km)

Most other bibs just feel like someone's juggling my bits.

Starting a collection of bibs that I've tried and will never again grace the touch of my bum again.

SANTINI GEL BIB! I was fortunate enough to get a pair from a friend who was a rep. ...I have a few other bibs and never use them....when my santini sees it's final days I'll happily spend the 2500 for another pair! Extreme comfort! And so far have given me 18 months service with no sign of falling apart.
