Come ride one of our demo Pygas at The Trailhead - 27.5 are available as 120 or 140 travel models. Their build kits only have RS Revelation or Pike depending on which model you looking at.

We also have the carbon Cube 140 Stereo 27.5 which is very very nice. Has a Fox 32 CTD Kashima fork...

.

Price range on the Cube?

FS is a bit out of my price range :( Nice bike though!

Sorry, that means Pyga is also out of your budget.

Your requirements: "The specs on a bike i'm looking for is any good 27.5" with RockShox Air forks" is very broad. Now we know why you are battling to find a mid level hardtail 650B with good front suspension.

Yup this is my dilemma exactly. They do exist though; Scott Aspect 710, Merida Big Seven Team Issue, Momsen AL655 all in my price range, just hard to come by sadly. My luck.... Even if I could just find the frame I would happily build the bike.

I'm soon going to be joining a few of my mates on their trails. They do technical / XC etc. I have been doing loads of research on the net. The specs on a bike i'm looking for is any good 27.5" with RockShox Air forks (I have read nothing but negative results on Suntour). The problem is... EVERY DAM BICYCLE store either only has 29er or their 27.5's only have Suntour forks which CAN'T be upgraded to RockShox because the headers are straight steer non-tapered. Our selection on MTB is SA is dismal compared to overseas. I would really like to get a Scott Aspect 710 but I can't find one anywhere. I would have loved a Momsen AL651 or Aspect 750 with RockShox Air forks, but apparently it's all incompatible. Hopefully someone here can shed some light?

The basics are best learned when actually going riding, chatting about bikes with your mates, tinkering with your bike, etc. Best explained in the company of bikes and people.

You'll have a better point of departure when googling.

Suntour make some amazing forks. They also make some pretty shitty ones too.

The same can be said about Rockshox. To be fair Rockshox have a better reputation than Suntour locally for supplying the market with more good suspension products than they do shitty ones.

Many, many entry level/recreational bikes in SA do come specced with shitty OEM suntour forks as seen on the floor. They're just attempting to meet a price point.

Chances are they have straight steerers too (1&1/8) A standard which is on the out fast. If not already dead. You want a frame with a tapered headtube. Quite frankly if you're looking at new bikes. They should all be tapered.

I agree with you completely. Sadly even Momsen's 2015 AL651 is non-tapered, and the 2015 Scott Aspect 750. It is a question I have asked myself "why are 2015 models manufactured with non-tapered standard" and the only conceivable answer is to make them compatible with the cheap XCT, XCM, XCR range in order to meet the price point which inevitably makes upgrading impossible. I would have bought a 650B entry level bike at 7K and dropped Fox air forks on thereafter. I may just have to continue shopping around for a Momsen 655.

if you have the correct headset cup like I mentioned in an earlier post, then you can fit a tapered steerer fork

How do I find that out? Hotspot Cycles and CycleLab informed me it can't be done.

Hi Tenjou Tenji, I bought a 17" (medium) sized Merida Big Seven XT edition from Cyclelab Fourways, for around R17K, with full 3X10 XT, carbon seatpost, 520 pedals and RockShox 30 Gold Air fork with Poplock. I've since bought a full sus KTM, and am looking to sell the Merida for around R13K, including 4 x Maxxis tyres that can be tubelessed, and Joe's tubeless kit (new, still in blister pack). Let me know if you're interested.
