Hi Guys.

We were riding the bottlery trails this Saturday past, and came through the single track on the yellow route and about 1/3 of the way through came across a fish gut / weed eater line strung across the single track between two trees about 1 meter high off the ground. luckily we were able to stop before hitting the line. I looked up into the bush and could see a guy in a yellow shirt sitting there...possible high jack attempt...not sure. I pulled the line down and got on my bike and hurried out of there. I think he didn't approach us cause there were four of us.

Guys be carefull, I would suggest to ride in groups and not alone

Be sure to let Bottelary Trails know about this as well so that they can keep an eye out too.

I took the liberty in doing just that. I sent them an E-mail this morning already. Will see if they get back to me. I've asked them to possibly comment in this post as well.

With Jonkers taking out of the account we are riding Bottelary hills a lot lately and I will probably buy my year permit this week. But on Saturday at that exact same place on the yellow route we also came across a group of about 6 youngsters sitting next to the single track shouting some random profanities when you pass them. Luckily us 2 girls were not alone. But unfortunately unlike Jonkers, don’t think we will ride there alone without another guy(s) with us. I will email Bottelary Hills MTB as well but don’t think there is much they can do about it?

Hi Marge, maybe we should have an active thread inviting other bottelary hills cyclist to join in on planned rides. this way there will be nice sized groups riding together hence rendering the rides a lot safer.

Training on these trails a lot of the time alone, I always avoid the yellow route. In a group its fine, but going that side solo is looking for trouble. As mentioned I've encountered a couple of children on numerous accounts when in a group. Parts of this route is going close to their homes. It's only a matter of time. The BottHills guys please need to educate these farm workers and children. Get them in some sort of a way involved.

Hi guys

We are aware of some mischievous characters on that section of trail. (Fish Eagle) The area has always been the farm kids playground (before the trail) where they fish and muck around. Some of them obviously get a kick out of laying the odd "booby-trap" for an unsuspecting cyclist. We have notified the landowner so he can adress the matter with his farm staff. It is however a difficult situation as its like trying to educate them about littering, foul language etc.

For now be vigilant and please report any incidents to us via email.
