Urgent help needed - strange problem - UPDATE

I had the same problem. Mine was a small hole in the sidewall just above the rim. When you ride, the sealant is forced to the outside of the tyre so there is nothing to seal the hole and nothing to see. Remove the sealant, pump the wheel and put it under water. you will find the hole.

Thanks - will try that.

I would say buy a new tire. Many years ago I had problems with old tires that wouldn't stay in place while cycling and caused the tube to pull the valve hard against the rim and cut the valve. I know you're running tubeless but I think the same principle applies. Your tire is not strong enough anymore to stay put.

Been also thinking along those lines as well. First time on Racing Ralphs, used Crossmarks for years and maybe got spoil with how strong they are (and heavy :(  ) but maybe I will go back to them.

This might be a lot of work, but if you really can't find the issue - perhaps swop tyres with your other rim. This will help you see if it is the rim or the tyre
What Breezer said sounds like an option.

Alternatively pump it up and sit on the bike/or "bounce" (putting your weight down if that makes sense), rotate the wheel, get back on the bike and do the same again until you have gone around the whole tyre - this might help pin point the area where the problem is...May it be with the rim or the tyre.

I am hoping the tyre rather than the rim, will have to make a plan to get another tyre and test.

Could also be a cracked rim / spoke hole, when you press down on the tire in the pool you may not see it but when the wheel is in place and the weight is applied to the hub it may be pulling at the rim causing it to leak.

You are right, one of the things I thought of! Hopefully not, a new rim a and wheel rebuild = RRR.

And I unfortuantly am neither a Goverment or Fifa official :)

Can't see how riding would affect this but have you checked that the valve is properly seated and tight?

Yip - brand new valve, seating area cleaned and checked and valve sits nice and snug.

No bubble from valve when in water.

my money is on leaking from nipple under load....

you may have nicked a hole in rim strip with tyrelever when installing tyre,

but even in that case you should see sealant bubbles if you pumped the tyre and shook it before the ride.

Wow, quite the mystery!

If there is sealant and an air leak then sealant will show somewhere, surely.

To me it seems the leak is somewhere not visible.

So I would remove the tyre and rimtape and inspect the rim, maybe you will see the sealant under the tape.

If the tyre is moving on the rim you would surely see sealant along the bead somewhere.

My money is on a crack in the rim that opens under pressure of riding.

Could perhaps do the stans horizontal shake and turn to make sure sealant reachs all along the bead if you haven't already.

Hope you find the problem, sounds pretty frustrating.

If there is a lot of congealed sealant around the valve seat on the inside of the rim, perhaps that might be the problem - must be one of the weakest point in a tubeless rim

take the tire off and check the inside of the tire, i had a hole in the sidewall that did that to me, patched the tire from the inside and problem solved

Thanks for all the input guys. Going to try one of the guys at works Maxxis Ikon tomorrow to rule out the tyre.

Will keep everyone updated.

Will be dissapointed if it turns out to be the Racing Ralph tyre, its only 2 years old with about 6 000 kms on it. :)
