Morning Hubbers.

I need to make use of this Think Tank of experienced Hubbers as I have a problem that I have not been able to solve for three weeks now.

Setup.

Stans ZTR Arch rear wheel with Racing Ralph Tubeless Snake Skin tyres and Sealant (Plenty, not dry)

Worked perfectly for nearly two years.

Pump up tyre hard, will stay hard for ever - whilst bike is standing.

Ride and it deflates within  1km.

No sound of air escaping, no sign of sealant.

Pumped up wheel hard and even had in swimming pool, no air bubbles.

Replaced rim tape and tubless valve.

Pump up tyre hard - seats nicely stays up for a week.

Do a test ride and flat by the end of the road - seems like it only goes flat when riding.

Double checked again, no sign of sealant of sound of air escaping, tyre seated nicely on rim.

Is the cold making me doff? Is my tyre/wheel associated with Fifa. WTF. :(

Anyone with any suggestions or ideas - anything welcome :)

Interesting!

My guess is that there's a cut in the tyre which seals under pressure when normal shape, when tyre is slightly deformed under load it opens up.......................

Will be interested to see if this is so, or what the real cause is.

I had the exact same problem with my Arch, took it to my LBS to check out. Apperently the Arch rims most of the times only works with the specific ZTR tubeless rim tape...they replaced my old ghetto tubeless conversion with the real thing, and problem solved

To add to this my front wheel, which is also a Arch, and with a different tire namely Maxxis Ardent, I had no problem with and it was also a ghetto conversion.

The rear tire was a Ikon and for some reason the ghetto tubeless and that tire did not want to work together

This sounds like the most logical reason.

Also thought so, but maybe then I would see sealant.

Used Stans tape, not a ghetto conversion :)

could you not maybe run the tyre in a bath and put weight on the axles to see if bubbles form when there is pressure on the tyre ?

Slowbee, tried that on the step of the swimming pool (flipping cold)

No bubbles, pressed as hard as I could plus bounced it up and down to simulate riding :)

Geez then I'm out. Good luck

Think I am going to need it, forgot to also mention that I also checked for thorns or nails, nothing stuck in the tyre. Front wheel exactly the same setup - no issues.

I had the same problem. Mine was a small hole in the sidewall just above the rim. When you ride, the sealant is forced to the outside of the tyre so there is nothing to seal the hole and nothing to see. Remove the sealant, pump the wheel and put it under water. you will find the hole.

I would say buy a new tire. Many years ago I had problems with old tires that wouldn't stay in place while cycling and caused the tube to pull the valve hard against the rim and cut the valve. I know you're running tubeless but I think the same principle applies. Your tire is not strong enough anymore to stay put.
