27.5 plus - another fad or a sweet spot for trail riding?

As an aside, I'm pretty amazed they're running A-OK on 32mm rims... is this the inner or outer width?

Do they not "roll" when cornering and running low pressures?

Now that you ask, I'm drawing a blank. I think it's the outer. I'll check later

Not really any significant roll, only at SUPER low pressures

Interesting. Does make the tyre size more available to 'standard' frames. It's the rim width that poses a problem when fitting frames.

The bike looks like great fun. If I had money to burn I'd buy one.

I'd buy a foes mutz too. Because I have money, they look like fun and I don't care what people try to pass off as an innovative new standard. It would save me the trouble of finding one of the many, many existing bikes and forks I'm sure have enough clearance to run wide wheels and tyres.

Fat Bikes make little sense unless you ride sand and snow regularly. Plus sized bikes are a bit better, but will never catch on here because the terrain is hard and the distances long. Imagine pedaling that 2.8 for 50 km on rocky jeep track. Can you say drag?

I think that may be dependent on terrain and rider. I've seen some guys on fatbikes blitz the field during marathon races.

From what I've read, there isn't any detrimental increase in rolling resistance. A 3.0" (or 2.8") will still pedal a hell of a lot easier than the 4.8" of a fatty.

Are'nt you supposed to be riding the Trans Provence?

I wish, no I am off Alp bashing in August! On a 26er with reasonably fat tyres that still feel like they drag on the ups...

Can you imagine touring on a rigid 29+ on SA's corrugated back roads for 100km+ per day... Can you say comfort...?

Got my marbles messed up, I had a conversation with someone here in Feb about this race. Somehow had you down as the lucky bastardo. Enjoy the Alps, I'll be there from 25 July.

In the 1960's Trill, makers of food for Budgies, had secured 100% of the British Budgie food market. Faced with zero growth, they came up with the genius advertising campaign of "An only Budgie is a lonely Budgie". Everyone ran out and bought a second Budgie, Trill doubled their turnover in a matter of months.
