Midrand to Modderfontein Reserve

The company I work for has organised an MTB event at Central Park Trails in Modderfontein.

Some of us are contemplating riding from Midrand to the start and then obviously home again.

The shortest driving distance is the highway which we cannot take, but, is there any routes that we could ride directly to the reserve? (even if some of it has to be tar)

If there is a direct route, is it 'safe' to ride? There will only be a few riders together (so far I only have one other rider who has shown interest in doing this with me)

Allendale is obviously an option, but, that is definitely going the long way around (going down Allendale is about 25km whereas direct can't really be more than 10km)

Morning Lurch,

Two options for you.

Allandale

or

via Woodmead to Linbro Park to modders.

Either way. Pack your climbing legs.

Pop in at the Sheriffs spot if you need directions.

Sorry cant help as I stay about 5/6km from the park. But tell us more about the event.........

Hi Long Wheel Base, I asked the other day if we can open it up to non-employees so I am just waiting on an official answer to that. I'd love to have as many people as possible there because there is a good cause behind it.

Thanks Carpet. I am sure Woodmead - Linbro will be shorter.

I'm happy to climb - anyone who comes along with me will find out on the way... :P

Pretty much the way I go home. Through waterfall. Onto woodmead drive. Nice big pavement to ride on. Lots of commuters. Left into Maxwell. Right onto old PTA. Onto marlboro. Use the Marlboro entrance. Bobs your uncle.

Thanks Uni, I will check it out.

Does anybody know if this from Allandale is something you can ride?

Excuse my ignorance but where is the Marlboro entrance?  Is this an additional entrance to the booms at the front of the reserve?

From what I understand, it comes out from Marlboro into the top parking, but I haven't gone in that way before either so not 100% sure on it.

+1

Or a shortcut to the boomed entrance?

Is this the ''entrance"/ parking that have been used for USN races?
