If only we had similar.

It's a new cycling project on a scale yet to be seen in South Africa. A proposal to connect Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay with a single, safe and scenic continuous track for riders was unveiled by MEC of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde yesterday

Local cycling organisations have backed the plan, saying the large-scale project - which is set to stretch over 520km - would position Cape Town as the cycling capital of Africa.

The development of the new route is being driven by the Western Cape government, Wesgro, local municipalities and private stakeholders in the region. And while it is still in an early stage, with audits to assess what would bring the vision to life, the aim is to spawn a new so-called "cycling economy" as the influx of tourists provides a boom for local businesses and creates a myriad new jobs, said Winde.

this 'plan 'is proudly brought to you by the same twits (DA and PPA)who cant complete the cycle lanes into cape town city from the suburbs or keep cars out of the cycle lanes we already have ....

its a ploy to attract tourists and votes (with no doubt a few lucrative property acquisition deals for mates thrown in ) ...

AND Safety is not an issue!!

Safety alone will make this a non starter - a pipe dream.

They can't even protect riders on the routes we have.

Or will this provide more opportunity for scumbags?

Sort out our safety first and then DREAM on.

Reminds me of a song - something about blowing in the Windy.

Cape Town cycling lanes 'a failure'

Cape Town - Motorists and road users are showing contempt for the city’s recently installed cycling lanes – painted green in colour – with some using it as kerbside parking and minibus taxis making it a zone to off-load and pick up passengers.

I noticed this on a recent trip to CPT. Disgusting really and something must be done! Perhaps vigilantes with sharp objects should do the trick?

maybe I should ....but

rant on

I come from jhb and I wasn't born under a cabbage I can smell bull$41t a mile off

and this "story" is that

the cycle lanes in cape town are a joke they run on pavements -they stop suddenly in the middle of nowhere -they go nowhere and they aren't safe or policed at all .... ( see above post)

they did however make some contractors etc  a ton of money as do the 'cycle tourists' that come here every year for the tour

all this 'story' is about is money and who can score some

its ridiculous propaganda (if you live here)

and the organisations supporting do very little for cycling that doesn't make themselves money and alan winde is a politician (no explanation required) who talks about cycling a lot cause he thinks everyone in cape town( and everywhere else) with a bike is an idiot he can hoodwink

cape town is not a cycling capital ...

cyclists get mown down on the lawless roads here every week - city of cape town doesn't care (or even pretend to )

mountainbikers get stabbed and robbed - city of cape town doesn't care (or even pretend to)

they only have to con tourists once ...

we live here and we know better !

rant off  happy Monday
